Diamondback Mean Streak circa 83/84 thoughts.
Have road past this semi derelict bike bunch of times decided to take a closer look and snap a couple of pics. Looks to be a neglected but basically good fully stock condition 83/84 Diamondback Mean Streak. Can't find much info on these other than they have a champion tubed frame and tange chro-mo fork and Suntour mountech components. There's very good chance I could pic it up for fairly cheap maybe even free can't really decide if this is a bike worth spending some time and effort on. I was wondering what members here know and think about this bike. Here are some not so great pics.

Very cool all around. Luv the Lugs. And the fork crown. More cool than a Stumpy (because I am a Centurion fan) And the bars are neat. If you don't have a MTB, for sure grab it.

Lugged chromoly frame, Suntour thumb shifters, bull moose bars, Sugino AT cranks, Suntour bear trap pedals. I'd be allover that!

Are you kidding? lugged frame, bull moose bars, thumbies, bear trap pedals, gorgeous bi Plane fork! I would be all over it for the right $$ bet it would ride like a cloud on some fat "townie" rubber. I once found a Nishiki cascade of similar vintage that was too small for me but had many of the same features (not lugged though).

If you dont like leave let someone that appreciates pick. Decent pre 85' MTBs are getting tough to come by. And Diamond Back > Diamondback. Diamond Back have their own style Bullmoose. Flares out and looks like a Diamond from the cockpit.

I followed up and haven't found who the bike belongs to checked with the business were it's abandoned he said he would ask around if no one claims it I will probably pick it up at the end of the week so it doesn't end up in the dumbster. Things move a bit slower were it is in a bit of a laid back mountain hippie town a bike like this that would be gone in an hour in the city will sit for weeks untouched.

I always thought the slightly smaller compact frames with the extended diamond bars and slightly racked forks on these was pretty cool something slightly different. Gives a nice ride quality but puts more stress on the fork making it more likely that the fork will get tweeked at some point. I think there's a very good chance the fork on these one is slightly tweeked.

As a follow up didn't get the bike I quess someone else got it. Not really a big loss though since it tuns out it had a bent frame set and wheels so it would likely have been salvaging the crank set, pedals which weren't branded suntour and shifters.

I had one for a few years. Made a decent loaded touring bike after I replaced the 180mm crank arms and 30" wide bars--which ALL sizes were fitted with! It felt like the steering was crisper than a comparable vintage Stumpjumper. If there had been more street tires available at the time I probably would have kept it.
