Giant Escape City or Marin Bridgeway or Specialized Globe Work
I have a road bike and a fixed gear but now I need a decent commute bike. I've looked at several LBS bikes and I think I've narrowed it down to these 3.

It is advisable to link to the specific models you are considering, since there are various sub-models/trims for those Marins and the Globe- the Escape City is a specific model within the Escape line.

Commuting from where into SF? I ask partially to understand how much climbing you have to do on your commute. If coming from Marin you might consider some very different bikes. If taking caltrain and just biking to and from the train, that is very different. I have ridden a Marin Larkspur, but not the Bridgeway. The Bridgeway is a very upright comfort bike...maybe not ideal if you have hills on that 10 mile commute or face SF's famous winds head on. If hills or wind are an issue, you might also consider a bike like the Marin Fairfax, which has a bit more aggressive position.
Out of curiosity, have you considered doing the commute on your road bike? I would recommend you try it for a couple weeks on your road bike to see if you like it. If nothing else it will help you determine what you do and don't like which may influence your purchase. Doing so may make you consider a slightly more sporty commuter.

i personally like the look of the Giant Escape the best. I've seen them in person too and I think they are quite sharp. It also comes ready to rock with the fixins like fenders and a rack. Price is great. Rock and roll, baby.

I would be commuting from the East Bay to SOMA. Not very hilly. I've done it before on my Roubaix and my Langster. I need something heartier and with gears. My knees and the fixie don't agree with each other any more.
I did visit my LBS and decided to rule out the Bridgeway.
So it's now down to the Escape, Globe or the Larksbur. They did show me a Specialized Sirrus. Also very nice.
