If I were you, I'd give them a good earful about letting you leave the premises with a wheel that is not properly secured. It's simply not acceptable. You're lucky it was the rear wheel. If it had been the front wheel you could easily have been taking your food in through a straw for a couple of months.

I'm a dead-set wanker.
Back ground...my sram rear deraileur cable runs straight across the skewer so to mount it on my bike stand, I have to stretch the cable a little and move the deraileur.
Today I decided to get the saw out and do some modifications to the stand. Now I have to buy a new stand.
EDIT....I have NO PHOTOS and won't be taking any of the result, because if I revisit the stand, I will have to kick myself again in the arse for being so stupid. The end!!

Is it bad that I find that funny?
I mean, I can only imagine how that was brought to your attention.

I was riding backwards while waiting for a light to change when I applied the brake. I noticed my brake wasn't working anymore but I was long gone before I realized I had left an almost new brake pad on the street.

That thread doesn't get enough traffic and this needs to be shared.
Yesterday morning, I was 3.5 mi through my 9 mile commute, coasting/waiting for the light to change. When I got the green I hammered the left pedal which promptly hit the pavement.
WTF? Did my gears slip? No, my pedal is literally on the pavement. I roll to the side to realized that I have SHEARED my bottom bracket axle in half and the left pedal and crank simply fell out!
What do I do? Public transit is not good in this location and can't take the bike on the train during rush hour. Well, I guess I could always pedal one-legged for the rest of the ride! I practiced in a parking lot for a couple of minutes and then hit the bike lane again.
I figure I went about 8-10 mi/hr one legged. This held out until I was 1.5 mi from work when the right crank started coming out. I finished off the commute with a kick-push/coast approach to bring it home. The final count is 2 legged (3.5mi), 1 legged (5mi), kick/coast (1.5mi).
Bought the necessary tools after work and will repair this weekend. A good excuse to force my GF to ride the tandem with me today in any case.

Approaching Prospect Park, about 12 miles into the NY Century, my left crank fell off. Nothing actually broken, just a loose screw. Fixed in a couple of minutes and on my way.

I wasn't paying attention and I hit a pole at ~7mph. Threw my front wheel out of true significantly (~0.5 inch lateral wobble) and tore a leather toe strap from ca. 1980 while trying to get my foot out of the clip in time. I will either buy a new pair of toe straps or get a whole new (modern) set of pedals with toe clips/cups. I got out the spoke wrench and trued the wheel as best I could (with uneven spoke tension because the rim itself is not true) so it is rideable, but since it is under warranty at Sports Authority, I am going to have them order a new wheel because I don't want to break a spoke somewhere down the road.
I'm not sure if you can see the out-of-trueness of the wheel in this video, but here goes...

Did one of my classic puncture rides tonight Rode 10km to my turn around point and my rear puncture proof tube goes straight down So I reach into my back pack where my back up pump always is, nope it's not there still don't know why or when I took it out.
Not willing to admit I'm screwed I tried to just ride home on a flat, after around 2km I give up and start walking tire still looks OK, I was on soft dirt. I think I'll accept it and enjoy the walk, seems like a nice night
Five minutes later it starts raining seems to be in patches, hard to tell when it's going to hit me being night though but I can stand under trees till it clears (this is when I take a photo) So I get within 1km from home no more tree cover and it's stopped raining. One minute later it buckets down bugger it I'm riding and arrive home drenched and don't know the tires condition because it's so covered in mud. I did achieve one thing, plenty of exercise
I'm sure I'll be stranded again some where some time soon.
