I'll bring a cooler this time, but it only keeps the beer cold for 19 hours....or unless we drink it while waiting.

I will win the suffering award for sure. I have been the leader of that 3 years running! Thanks for pointing that out Robbie! I am still chasing that elusive 200k. Did it the first year...but that did not count as the ride was easier. I have missed the cut off time twice now; one due to not in good enough shape, way too many repairs last year, and added frustration of no more BEER. Make sure you get in a complaint or two for me on that one... Maybe Wisconsin Brewing Co. instead of Capitol. Unacceptable to run out of beer at a Wisconsin event...FAIL A big yes on the cooler and lots of ice while waiting on me (hahaha good one)

Love this ride though...best of the best!

I just shared Robbie's "Planning post" on 2 Facebook groups I belong to. No surprise a classic Paramount group and a steel is real group. Hopefully we get some interest from all over to help grow this event.

Those two "steel is real" groups reach a lot of classic/vintage riders.

My deepest sympathies. Knowing I'm personally responsible, I'll toss a cooler in the back with some labeled for hodgykins.

Perhaps I'll save a cold six, but endeavor to empty the beer truck supply again. A person has to have goals.

Are any hotel options solidified yet? I thought I heard some noise about something in Darlington. @RobbieTunes what say ye? I stayed in the Madison area last year at the same hotel some of my Evanston bike buddies used. Nice place, and it made getting to the Friday ride with @crank_addict convenient, but it was a hike back and forth a couple times.

Sounds good.

It may be worth contacting Saris and Budget Bikes too.

BBC is one of the sponsors, and I think they provide SAG mechanic support. I'll look into Saris.
The next day, I took my picture there, thought about going in and picking up an Ironman for only $2000, but didn't.

We want to be a complement to the Dare, and not a distraction or a sponsor drain.
The sponsors probably get hit up for tons of stuff during the year.

If anyone has pics and/or examples of cheap/nice-looking bike stands that can be made for, say, 75-100 bikes, PM them to me, or send me a PM and I'll give you my email. There are tons of woodworkers in the area, and also a stainless steel furniture factory in Mineral Point. Anything I can order and not have to carry is a plus. Registration in the show would perhaps include a stand, not sure how it would work with multiple bikes....

Two pieces of 12" x 96" non-construction grade plywood, sanded and varnished. 30 degree bevel cut on one 96" edge. Grooves (tire size dependent) cut on 12 inch centers (could be more than 12" but then less bikes per rack). Hinged on the inside so the bevel cuts act as a stop and can fold inward like a book. Holds 8 bikes.

I'd start with a prototype, a 2'x4' piece cut in half.

Cut grooves in different sizes for different tire widths. Or, cut wide, use a piece of pipe insulator as a filler.

Ideally, you want the tire to touch both ends of the groove and the floor. That is hard by hand, pretty easy by modeling program.

I'd also look at 12" centers versus 16" centers.

Cool; I'll be doing the 150 or the 100 depending on how much beer I think will be left,

Since this is a concern, a "VIP" C&V seating area would be nice. We can BYOB, mix/match/share without worrying about the unclean masses (you know, off-topic bikes and their riders )

That may be pushing it, but if we just label an area "Classic and Vintage" it will be self-exclusionary for those that don't "get it." Of course, being Wisconsin, some women will come by because they'll perceive us to be the cool kids, and some other women will come by and want to fight us for our better beer.

Ok. Maybe nothing "formal". But nothing stopping us from taking over a section of the picnic tables and peeing our territory.

I'm starting to get the impression that the vast portion of entrants only do 100k! Is that correct?

Most plans for 100k+ are well-intentioned, but excess beer on Friday, lack of sleep, excitement, last-minute repairs, and yes, adrenaline tend to take a toll. There are also some of us who ride long on Friday and Sunday, and come to realize the day is only so long and an hour at the picnic table with folks afterwards is as valuable as the ride. Add in the show this year, and I will do the 100k on a C&V bike and get back to "duty."

And then there's the hills.

For me, 100k was a good balance of "fun" and suffering. I still had enough gas in the tank to spend the afternoon walking all over Mineral Point with the wife. She didn't have to carry me once.
