I'm back from the Tour Divide and didn't get eaten by bears.

I'm not any faster though. Even a guy that was 67 and riding a single speed left me in the dust. I got some good photos though.

Smart man. Bet it was a fun trip, dust aside.
Bringing some photos to the Dare?

I think I found the perfect secret training grounds for the Dare. Did 25 miles yesterday with 3200 ft of climbing. Did 27 miles today with another 3200 feet of climbing. I rented a bike--a fuji tread--and I appreciated the 34/32 up those hills. The bike riding is almost as challenging as the Iowa Alps where @Thermionscott does his training,

Bumping as this is getting closer...

Who is interested in a Friday or Sunday ride (flatter of course)? I think we kicked around a couple possibilities earlier.

I'd be interested, though it depends on what nights my reservation covers. @RobbieTunes I snagged one of your reservations at the Dairyland Motel. Do you recall what nights it is for?

I would be interested in a Friday ride. I recall discussion of possible going north to do one of the trails, which would require auto travel to either Reedsburg (1 hr drive) or Elroy (1.5 hr), but would be pancake flat. We also have road options nearby. As a resident of the area I am qualified to come up with a "least hilly" route given a starting point, a distance, and a tavern option. For example, meeting in Blue Mounds or Mt. Horeb, we can ride about 40 miles and only have to climb once, basically back up to the starting point.

If there is interest in either type of ride Friday count me in.

Yes, I had suggested Elroy-Sparta, based on a story or blog post I saw which indicated this was the first rail-to-trail path in the country. Kind of like the bike equivalent of driving Route 66, though with fewer drive-ins.

Up for a Friday ride. Like the idea of E-S rail trail ride but seems to be quite a distance from the Friday evening event. Thinking we'd be back back by 2-3:00 pm at latest?

Also while up there, might as well get a ride in for Sunday too with whoever is planning to stick around. Depends how toasted I'll be after Sat. but thinking of riding the tandem with another forum member.

I don't, but you may need to call and speak with Mark or Virginia to make sure. If you hit a snag on a night, PM me.

And there's parking at Riley's Tavern, too.....

NO to Friday, YES to Sunday. Getting in Thursday PM, interested in a get-together that night if possible (CA and I are in Dodgeville), Friday for me reserved for late sleep in, relaxed day of vintage conversation/exposition, more beer, great dinner, late night, much friendship. Saturday is The Big Ride, want to make sure I'm as fresh as a 65 year old on a vintage Cinelli can be for that. Sunday? Sure, cuz I'll be sleeping on the plane back to DC the next day.

I'll check a route from Riley's Tavern to the bike highway north of West Towne. Not sure it's viable, but you never know.

How about a city ride in Madison on Friday or Sunday? The Lake Monona loop and Capitol City trail are a couple of options. We could stop at a few Madison sites such as the Memorial terrace, the Capitol etc

Spoke with Mark. I have a reservation for Friday and Saturday nights. I haven't cleared anything with Ellen, but I could potentially drive up early Friday and maybe hang around for a Sunday morning ride.

Could be great. Is the Terrace still under construction?

Madison is always cool. Always. We could park off of John Nolan...

I'll be coming through Chi-town Thursday afternoon, most likely. I'm wide open for riding Friday, Saturday (do we have plans?) and Sunday. Heck, maybe Monday...

Question related to the show...

Is there a place where the show bikes are secure while we are riding (for those of us bringing more than one)? Need to decide if I bring the bikes that fit on the car or in the car.

Hopefully there will be something at the ride venue. Robbie is trying to nail that down.

Worst case scenario, locked in the barn at the Bartali location (which I won't divulge for security reasons, )

Edit: Oops, should have said interested in Sunday and possibly Friday. I can do Friday but I'll need to arrange a place to stay on TH night; no big deal.

I am working Friday for 1/2 day...so I might be up for a warm up ride, but depends on my work load. Staying at Walker House Friday. Looking forward to Friday show & tell...bringing my "pride and joy" for show but riding my 84 Paramount...hopefully the elusive 200k I have failed at for 2 years running.

Just want to remind everyone, if you haven't registered for Vintage Class, please do so. It's free. We need to know how much food to make, beer to bring and swag bags to make. Thanks.

Registration ? Viva Cycling

If I have to tow you to the cutoff, it will happen this year. New tires, new tubes, my friend.
