A couple of reasons.

1) One GPS full screen with the map, the other with data fields.

2) Person is using one GPS to geocache with and doesn't want to mess with his mileage stats. I used two GPS units for this reason when I toured.

It appears units support GLONASS to improve GPS, not really as an alternative**. That is, it would be more likely to use both at the same time.

No, it appears to be a version of the Garmin GPSMAP 64.

The "short antenna looking thingy" is an antenna. The point is to increase GPS sensitivity.
