How would you compare the ride of your two nice Herse bikes? Your Red one is only a couple years later than my blue 1961 from earlier in this thread, but they almost seem like different eras because of the very different color schemes and Cyclo vs. dropout derailleurs. Your chrome demontable is over the top with Herse features, including the massively over-the-top stem and steerer!

I hope somebody with "H" bikes can help me out here.

I saw a Hawthorn made in Belgium over the weekend and haven't been able to find out anything about it. Every time I search, I get reply's for the old Montgomery Wards bikes.

It is in very beat condition. (Sorry, no photos yet.) But, it has some alloy components that are midrange and I wondered if it would be worth rehabilitating? I'll try to get some photos this week if I get any responses.

1962 Holdsworth Cyclone with Campagnolo Record. Lovely lugs on this one. I'm going to convert the crank to a triple so I can make it up the hills around here.

1946 Herse Competition. I really should ride this one more, but need to do something with the gearing:

Herse bikes just always look so stately, elegant.

there was a member of the club I joined that had one. Terrific bike, light metallic blue competition oriented, no fenders. He kept it perfect. I knew little of the brand, but the hand lettering and lug work stood out.

the tragedy was he was hit by a drunk driver who crossed over the double double yellow line years later on Pacific Coast Highway, you can guess the rest. The club has lost three on that road now.
