Croupon Gaurantee

So I recently purchased a French saddle marked Croupon Gaurantee.

I looked up what croupon translates to.......butt!

So does that refer to where the leather came from, butt of the steer, or that my behind is gauranteed the enjoyment of a soft ride?

Wow, a French butt guarantee.

I'm not touching that one.

Much as I may want to.

Fraught with peril all around.

Jeepers, it just gets worse....

As the name suggests, butt leather is from the back part of animal. Quadrupeds aren't shaped like people, so a cow butt or a horse butt is not exactly what Beavis and Butthead picture when "you said butt!" Anyway, butt leather is the best kind for saddles, not just French ones.

OK, my saddle arrived from France this week. Put it on my REW Reynolds. Its supremely comfortable. The leather is really thick and supple. I tightened up the saddle nut to take a little slack out of the leather.

It's made by Lionrone, guessing its from the 50's and thats the way it was listed on ebay. Saddle has a low profile and cut kinda square in the back. Also its a good centimeter longer than my Brooks B17. Check out the pics.

It does look to be really long compared to a Brooks or Ideale. Nice looking croupon saddle.
