Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? The only bikes I've had as an adult are my Kilo WT, and a Ross McKinley mountain bike with big cruiser tires and non-functioning derailers. I have an almost all-original 25" '77 Schwinn Traveler I ride/maintain as my own, but it really belongs to my female roommate who is way too small to ride it.

As a kid I remember having a Huffy Sigma and a number of other crappy BMX and mountain bikes.

I only got on bicycles a handfull of times between the ages of 14 and 30.

Well there had to be a tricycle, but I cannot remember the make or model
There was a bike that had training wheels because I remember when they came off
(My sister had a beautiful blue and white bike--circa late 1950's)
I inherited my brother's green J.C. Higgins single speed
In 1968 I get a Sears Spyder 3-speed (still have it in near mint shape)
In 1973 I get (I wanted a Targa) a generic 10-speed (repainted it and sold it).
In 1976 I bought my own Supercycle (Bridgestone) Excalibur 10-speed (still have it)
In 1995 I bought myself a Sears Free Spirit Northstar mountain bike (still ride it today)

Diamondback BMX- rattlecan black, have no idea where it went.

Raleigh racebike from the '60s- candy apple red, and way too big. Wrapped a towel on the toptube for a seat.

Faggin roadracer- Special ovalized Columbus tubing, full panto, candy red with metallic. All Campagnolo with 28 spoke Ambrosio Synthesis sew-ups. Got it from my brother..............then sold it before I joined the Army. Big regrets!

Mongoose Rockadile- Got it in Alaska, put full XTR on a $50 dollar frame! Finally broke the frame (metal fatigue) when I was car-free for 8 years.

Diamondback Scandium Hardtail- Got the frame from the pro team, transferred the XTR. Too light for me, rear triangle flex was insane. Gave it to my scrawntoid oldest brother, he still races it.

Schwinn Paramount- 1970 P13 racer, mint condition. Got it from my oldest brother. He had it since we were kids.

Benotto- Fixed gear with Miche components, shockingly fast. Metallic blue.

Faggin- Fixed gear with Campy components, ultra smooth ride. Candy red.

Pinarello Paris- My road rocket, Campy Record and in bright red.

Assorted frames and parts. Been cycling since maybe 1980-

Edit- Just found some more bikes when I got up from the computer! Nothing too interesting, just MTB.

First bike was a Magna with coaster brakes when I was like 5.

Then came a ****ty Walmart Mountain bike which became my gradeschool beater.

I stopped thinking about bikes for a few years, and eventually got into BMX. Rode a DK Fury for a while, then got a Fit. I was never any good at tricking, but I loved riding dirt trails and hitting jumps. I realize now that I had the most fun just riding it around.

When I first left for college, I picked up an old Magna road bike from craigslist, which I eventually forgot about. It was really cool to cruise around town with.

Then literally out of nowhere, I decided to get into track bikes. None of my friends were into it, and it just looked sweet. I originally intended to get into cycling to help motivate my dad to lose weight, but he's just way too sedentary. I picked up my Raleigh Rush Hour, which is by far my favorite bike I've ever owned.

About a month ago, I decided to buy an old Shogun to use as a winter beater. I don't plan on throwing any money at it, its just fun to ride in snow. It will be a temporary until I actually build up a 29er.

i cant remember what i had when i was a kid. some specialized rockhopper i think.

i didn't get back into bikes until i was like 26. now im bike CRAZY.
these are all the bikes i currently own right now...i built them all from the frame up so im basically naming them by their frame:

SSFG:
Traitor Ringleader - my "sweet fixie"...purple/white frame but then all silver components with some leather brooks saddle and tape.
Bianchi Pista Concept - my "track bike"...although i dont live anywhere close to a track. im just hoping one day i move close to one.
Philips - my "coaster brake beater"...old Philips frame from the 60s, coaster brake wheelset, risers, and a cetma front rack

Geared:
Tommaso Imola - my "commuter roadie"...first bike i bought. bought it for physical therapy from knee surgery. what got me bike crazy. pretty much upgraded all parts on it.
Vitus 979 - my "fast vintage roadie"... bought frame cheap. love the looks of it. stripped paint and repainted a few tubes maroon, left rest naked aluminum. super fast. me gusta. also call it the "suicide machine" because its a bonded frame.
Centurion Super Le Mans - my "vintage psuedo cross bike"...bought a NOS frameset and cranks, and threw on knobby 700x32 tires and moustache bars. kind of my grass/gentle-dirt road bike. thinking of getting fatter tires.

Specialized Rockhopper - my "90s MTB bike"...bought the frame for 20 bucks. lol'd at the cheesy 90s graphics when i saw it. realized it looked allot like the bike i had as a kid. built it up with deore and a rockshox fork. fun off roadie.

oh then theres the fiance's bikes (that i built):
Raleigh Mixte - her "pretty coaster brake beater"...some raleigh mixte frame sprayed black, black everything, except pink chain and pink risers. rear rack with an old Crush soda box strapped to it.
Bianchi Campione de Italia - her "celeste roadie"...FINALLY my bike crazy rubbed off. i showed her a celeste bianchi and she was like "ZOMG i love CELESTEEEEE" so its all celeste, celeste stripped tires, celeste frame pump. all shimano 600.

OH and i forgot the Centurion CompTA my father in law gave me...needs some cleaning but nice older shimano 600 components.

so yah there are 10 bikes at my house lol

- Peugeot PX10LE (top of the line Peugeot racing bike, purchased in 1975, long gone in a garage sale)
- Bikecology house brand alu mountain bike (expensive at the time, about 1984, $500)
- KHS alu mt. bike (awesome bike)

• Plastic wheeled 16" sears training wheeled BMX (gave to a cousin)
• Some 20" huffy bmx (took with me to western samoa as a kid, left it there, sold to a local.)
• Huffy White heat. (Sold for $55 after I cleaned it up and put it by the side of the road

Still Have, in the garage-
•*'93 Trek 850 shx shocking orange to purple to gunmetal fade frame (still have it, just built it up again this past fall with a judy fork and parts from 4 different generations of LX all that's original is the bottom bracket)
• 1994 Hyper Metro BMX peregrine 48s, GT three piece cranks, sat for about a decade, so a lot of surface rust on the chrome :/
• Some old Cannondale frame stripped bare by the sisters boyfriend and built up with a bastardized assortment of late 80s-early 90s parts)
• Mid 90's Jamis Diablo (The source of a lot of those LX parts, still have frame/headset hanging in the garage)
• 2001 GT ZR 5.0 (still got it, built up with 105/ultegra, all that's original is the Bottom bracket)
• Late 2000s motorbacon Fantom CX (picked it up off craigslist, built with campy veloce 9 speed ergos and deraileurs and a sram cassette)
• 1991 Cinelli Ottomila MTB weird american-italian hybrid designed by Gary Fisher and sold by Cinelli (just got it this past month, refreshed a bunch of stuff, XT RD of the era to match the FD is in the mail)
• Bridgestone MB-4 (again, saved from the CoOp, was just a little too nice and complete to let get taken down.)
• Two old Fuji road bikes (one giant and white with chrome banding/fork ends, one a little more reasonably sized blue with flipped up bars and shimano)
• B*tchin' chesnut '78 Schwinn Varsity, needs a polish, but it's in amazing shape.
• Wire brushed late 80s Giant RS930 dressed up and converted to SS

Think that's all of 'em. I'd have to go out and take another look.

Started off learning to ride on my grandma's banana seat bike. Not sure what happened to that.

Schwinn Scrambler with yellow mag wheels was my first bike of my own

Next up were a pair of ten speeds after the scrambler got too small. A silver one of unknown brand that had a spirit crushing drag of a light generator and a girl's pink 10 speed (both had shifters at the stem) that was faster due to no generator. I shared both bikes with my sister.

Some sort of early mountain bike from a hardware store was my next bike. Ditched it when I joined the military.

A Roadmaster mountain bike that weighed 9 million pounds stopped by tinfoil and jello brakes. Relearned my love of cycling from this bike, and upgraded after a few months

2007 Trek 1000 road bike in Team Discovery colors.

'70's Schwinn Varsity as a beater bike that was a lesser risk to be stolen than the Trek.

2008 Trek 5.5 Madone decked out in everything carbon. I use this only on nice days on fast club rides (or when I raced)

1985 Raleigh Team USA bike

Lets see, I don't remember what kind of Tricycle Ive had.
My first bicycle was some kids bike. I have no idea what it was or anything. I just remember once the frame broke in half and my dad welded it back together.

A few hand me down bikes. 1 had a banana seat. "Sweet Pea" for a little while.
I had a 5 speed bike for a while
I had a bmx style I guess, it had "metal mags" as my friends called them instead of spokes. Most other similar bikes had plastic ones.

The next bike was my first new bike. It was a Huffy Stone Mountain bike. 18 Speed. I think I baught it myself.
Then when I was in the military I had a couple that stayed at the base after I left. Dont remember what they were.
Now that I'm out, I baughta Fuji Nevada 3.0 Mt Bike My second New non-handmedown bike

1982 Schwinn Stingray. Remember my dad helping me get on and checking it out. Christmas Eve after he got off work carrying mail. Had to be late at least 6 pm. Got it from a pawn shop. A milestone memory.

Mid 80's Yellow Murray BMX. POS beater. Watched my brother DESTROY it on a homemade ramp I wouldn't jump off. Front tire tacoed, frame bent, and the handlebars twisted and nearly snapped. Swore to him that the empty refrigerator box we set up 15 feet away would "catch" him. He hit it "perfectly" at about a 75 degree angle. Bike stops in a heap and his helmet saves him from a trip to the ER. Laughed my ass off while he writhed in pain... I feel bad about that one.

Early 90's Woolworth Mountain Bike. Black and white... loved that bike. Fast and light. Ran over a mailbox and a parked car at full speed on the biggest hill in the neighborhood. HUGE dent in the side of the old Cadillac, mailbox snapped off the post. Got in a lot of trouble. Bike was toast.

Didn't have a bike for high school and most of college.

2002 Raleigh M30. Stolen while locked up outside my brother's dorm. That bike sucked.

2004 GT Timberline LTD. Converting it to a single speed. Almost done. Very boring bike. Hopefully not after I'm done.

2010 Schwinn Madison. It's fun to have a bike again.

Lets give this a try...

-Tricycle, not sure of the brand

-Some unknown two wheeled bike, I remember the moment when I first learned to balance it without the aid of training wheels. I was hooked. Around 6 years old…

-Sears, red frame, 26" wheels, coaster brake, rode this like it was stolen.

-First Muti-gearded bike was a white bike I saved money from a paper route to purchase at the May Co. it had "Tour De France" on it. My dad worked for GM and bicycles didn't put food on the table so he was against spending money on this.

-Centurion, not sure of the model, was left with a friend in San Diego after I was discharged from the Navy.

-Kabuki, again not sure of the model but it was a 25" frame. Too tall for me. Was hit by an oncoming van and the frame folded in half.

-82 Trek 710 frame built up with some parts from the Kabuki and upgraded over the years to all 7400 Dura Ace. Stolen once and recovered. Still have this.

-90 Trek 750 hybrid. My main commuter from 91 to around 2002. Recently upgraded to 3x9 with new wheels.

-Nashbar mountain bike frame, was built and ridden now just a frame

A couple of bikes my ex picked up,

-Raleigh Technium, converted to a SS then converted back and sold

-Two Huffys, his and hers, donated to charity

More I purchased,

-Schwinn Super Sport, way too small, raffled off for charity

-Pinerello, was repainted not sure of the model, sold

-Three late 60’s Schwinn Typhoons, all modified and sold

-Sears Spaceliner, in parts waiting for reconstruction

-Nashbar SS

-Nashbar roadie, aluminum and carbon frame

-86 Vitus

-83 (?) Nishiki Cervino

-79 Panasonic Track, sold

-Electra cruiser, modified and sold

-Marin Palisades Trail, disassembled and parts used for other projects, frame donated to charity

-Italian Steel MTB

-Marin MTB, built for my kids but they are not really interested

-74 Schwinn Speedster

And I’m always looking…
