Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What's the fastest you've ridden?

Curious what speed demons lurk here? What's the fastest you've clocked on your bike? Downhill included.

55. On that hill, it's not the speed that worries me, it's the corners.

Just put a computer on my bike today, so I only have one ride to go by. My max speed today was 38mph, not impressive but I guess not bad for the first day keeping track.

52, and as I came around a wide curve, up came a truck in my lane. I could not jerk the bike to the side fast enough to get out of his way. I simply held my line and he jerked his wheel violently to his right and I passed by way...way...too close. Made me smile.

I'd been stuck on 39 for some time then hit 42 the other day with perfect conditions. Think I'll retire now.

52 here. Strava Segment | Twin Oaks DH - The Meat of the Segment. Wide and straight. One place where a Clyde like me could hit KOM, but what's the point? I'd like to live a few more years.

My regular commute-4 miles almost dead flat-I recently did at 18.5 average. Mild tailwind, catching most of the lights.

Occasional long commute-29 miles ~1200 feet vertical, most climbing under 5% with about a 400 foot net drop- my fastest was late last year. About 16 average

I have held 27mph flat with a major tailwind for 3 miles. I could have held it for 30 if the road stayed straight, I was basically just along for the ride. Going downhill I have gotten 36mph on my old huffy, on my new roadbike the best is 35mph but I usually coast down hills, and they never last that long around these parts

51 or 52. I can't remember the exact number. All I cared about was going over 50. I did it here: Strava Segment | Brockway Summit descent to NorthStar

I had a high-speed wobble on that section once, which scared the crap out of me.

I haven't been on Strava that long, so this is probably the fastest one I can prove: Bike Ride Profile | 108 miles near Carson City | Times and Records | Strava

It shows a max of 53.5. I know it's not super fast but I do weigh ~140lbs.
