I should definitely point out that I know little about todays' carbon fiber frame legends, hence they did not make my extremely unimportant list above. Cruising the web I see ALOT of amazing CF frames/bikes...they are soooo cool. One day I shall have one! I saw a Pinnarello Prince the other day at my LBS...THAT's a fine looking machine!

I owned a Murray 21 speed mountain bike (so called) about 10 years ago... That bike was almost un-controllable… every time I road it near a lawn it would head right for the grass.
Disclaimer: in order for one to understand this, you must remember that the Murray Company also made lawn mowers… If you didn’t remember or know this, than my last statement made no sense what so ever…Sorry… Please carry on…

So as long as I get it straight:
$50 worth of carbon fiber raced by pros in the toughest races on the planet: not worth the markup
$50 worth of steel that looks like it's been one-offed for a Vegas showgirl with hundreds of hours of labor that add nothing to the bike's function: TOTALLY worth it.
Did I miss anything?

I am sure Specialized makes good bikes but I will never own one and hope to only give them some grief for they marketing schemes they pull off. Not to mention no threaded bottom brackets and exposed cables.

I can recognize a good quality Bronze welding job on a lugged frame.
