Anyone Recognize This Bike?

For some reason I am intrigued by this bike that I am considering buying. Maybe it is the color or the chrome. I am guessing that it weighs a ton. The seller doesn't know the brand. Are there any guesses as to the maker of the bike?

POSSibly a Puch (Bergmeister) or something else Austrian? I think maybe a step UP from Bergmeister if it is a Puch/Steyr/A-D product due to chrome and a nicer fork bend...but has some distinctly "Austrian" details

I think it's a Puch Bergmeister. Notice the comparison?

1970 Puch Bergmeister | Old Ten Speed Gallery

Looks like it would make an awesome randonneur.

EDIT!! Looks like unworthy1 had beat me to it.... Sorry for the repeat.

That’s definitely a Bergmeister - head lug, fork crown, seat stay ends, seat lug, crankset. The nds will show you the internal top tube brake cable routing. I had one for a couple of years. It’s a bit heavy, but man the ride was smooth. Long wheelbase, low trail. I loved it.

They were also distributed badged as Sears & Roebuck bicycles...sometimes "J.C. Higgins"

The forum had a wonderful thread begun by a first-time restorer who took in a Sears badged example from 1967.

This person did marvelous job with both the bike and the documentation of the process.

Spanner twistin' tip -

These machines have one odd dimension. The steerer is 26.0mm OD. This means headset is special. This size is sometimes referred to as "Austrian size."

Thanks for the information. It looks like this 1964 J.C. Higgins bike.

Good deal, so if you're in luck this MIGHT be a "ted Williams" model and have some 531 tubing, but even if it's gaspipe it has loads of style and looks to be in very good shape for a 1964 relic!

That's a sweet looking bike! I love the early 60's graphics.

I'd have a hard time turning this down if it showed up locally. This is a cool looking bike.
