Welcome. I went the other way - road to fixed. Fixies were fun for a few years but my mind wonders easily riding. I did things like take turns too fast, struggle up steep hills forgetting that I have to go down, and stand up to stretch. All not good!

Certainly not ditching my fixie for quick daily riding, but it’s been holding me back a bit in terms of planning longer rides etc. Also, just looking forward for another project!

Welcome. I was born and raised in Toronto, Canada but hardly recognize the area I grew up in which was the Broadview-Dundas-Gerrard area.
I like fixed gear for rides on gently rolling hills but alas my fixed gear bike was totaled in Hamilton a few years ago when a bicyclist riding the wrong direction on a one-way street rode out onto King Street directly in front of me and I T-boned him and bent my frame. At least I was able to pull the front fork out enough so the wheel would clear the frame when turning left to right or right to left. I was able to limp home on it but the frame repairs would have cost more than the frame. Too bad because iirc it was a Mariposa track frame but I did have brakes on it. I had the fork and the rear bridge drilled for them.
Cheers
