Okay, it's all right for me to post a found-on-the-internet photo of the non-drive side, but for the OP to provide a similar photo of his own bike after all the crap you guys gave me is unconscionable. Dude, go get a drive side pic!

In his defense, he is a newbie and hasn't looked at 10,000 BF DS white garage door pictures, which we regulars know is the official photo of BF.
So OP, you need to go get one of the drive side (where all the important parts are) and if you don't have a white garage door, get out the paint.

Life's too short for NDS photos, unless there's something specific to be seen on that side.

I know, I know, it doesn't seem that important but eventually it will matter to you.

I just heard back from Giant about the bike. I had been emailing back and forth with a guy there from customer service. He had to go talk to some of the older employees since he was one year old when the bike came out.
He says it is an 89 model and quite rare. Quite rare as a Giant model I suppose. I would be happy to forward the email to someone who could post a portion of it. I'm probably going to find someone who would be interested in it as
a restoration project since I would no doubt just mess it up.

I haven't even seen that decal before. I thought they didn't start selling under their own brand until Schwinn was good and done. I first noticed Giants when I was college in the mid-late 1990's, and I actually thought for a while it was a brand for tall people because it was right around when aluminum frames with sloping top tubes proliferated and that made the bikes look bigger.

Late '80s is when Giant appeared in the States under its own name. It was a big deal because the industry knew they'd been building Schwinns for years.

Oh, no, don't say that! If your daughter would ride it you really should keep it. Bike work isn't that hard and we'd be glad to assist if we can. There's probably nothing on that bike we haven't dealt with. Hang in there.

Don’t let a few snarky comments put you off. Looking at the picture of the bike posted, there isn’t too much “restoration” that needs to be done. It looks like it is good, rideable shape. It’s not factory fresh but bikes don’t need to be that fresh to ride.

And, if your daughter is smaller, it’s the perfect ride. My 5’ tall wife liked her’s a lot better than anything else she had ridden previously. Give it a shot.

I will do that. She is a small girl. 5'2. She will be home Christmas and I will let her try it out first.
It does seem quite rideable.

Chain Ring

I pulled the chainrings off because they were not round and I thought they had been damaged. Looking up replacements for the Biopace rings I have discovered they were made this way.
I guess they are not sold anymore. Found some used ones on ebay. But I will be reinstalling these since they are just different like the bike.

Biopace road (double) rings are 130mm BCD while the mountain/touring Biopace are 110mm for the center and large while the inner is 74mm; the standard touring configuration for a couple of decades. Make sure you purchase the right ones, regardless whether you go round or otherwise.

Just to chime in, the 24x1 1/8 is the 520 ISO BSD, and is used for 'mini, junior & expert' sized cruisers in BMX racing. Just in case anyone is looking for quality wheels and tires, j&r bikes, Dan's comp (assuming that resurrection succeeds) are good places to look.

I suggest that you ask more questions about things on your bike before you do any more work on it. It could save you a lot of time and aggravation. Your bike is not worth much but it is just unusual enough to be cool. I'd hate to see you ruin or toss away some perfectly good parts.

Have you determined what the ISO size of your front tire is?

It may just be the angle of the picture but it appears that the front brake pads are rubbing on the tire. You may need to lower those pads.
