Oldie but (hopefully) goodie!

Hi all,

I'm DigitalGee, and I haven't ridden a bike in two years.

Not proud of that! I'm posting to see if anyone still remembers me from way back when. I was a regular on the forum from about 2005 to perhaps 2012, mostly in the 50+ forum. Somehow, all my old posts are gone and I'm considered a Newbie once again. (Wish I could have a Newbie body to go with that!)

I've moved from San Diego to Reno, where it's hard to ride year round. I have two bikes in the garage waiting for spring. I'll probably sell off one of them - the Masi, purchased in 2012. She's known as Mrs. Jones. She's way beyond my capacity these days, at least for now.

I live close to a preserve with a nice paved trail around it that is about 3 miles in circumference. When the weather breaks this spring, I hope to start riding again. Not like I used to ride, that's for sure. No more "ride your age" rides for me, at least to start up again. Feel almost like a beginner after all this lost time!

Anyway, if anyone remembers me, give me a holler!

Hey DeeGee ... I remember you! I even remember "Mrs. Jones".

Lots of bike changes/experiments, iirc. Going to get back at it? Hope so! Just start; it'll come back.

I remember you too!

I hope to get back at it when Spring arrives. I'll probably see how it goes with my Specialized Sirrus Elite - named Clementine. It fits inside my Subaru Forrester without a bike rack. I remember loving that bike! But I'm also going to explore other possibilities - perhaps a recumbent, perhaps a trike. It's all good! Can't wait to get back in the saddle.

I joined Bike Forums in 2008, and I quickly gravitated to the Fifty-Plus Forum. I do recall you, though I don’t recall any exchanges between us in public forums, or via PM’s, and you are part of the “good old days.”

I recently posted to the now-closed thread on Fifty-Plus, “How do we know when it’s time to stop?.”

For me the heady days on the Forums were from about 2008 to 2016, in particular participating in the Fifty-Plus Annual Rides, which have since disappeared.

Know what? 50+ is coming back. The nay-sayers have drifted away and 50+ is everso slowly returning to the way that it used to be. I like that.

I still miss Denver and the Deege.

I myself think this so-called "way it used to be" ended with the Fourth Annual Ride in Tennessee. BTW, billydonn was on that one.

Another change IMO is the seeming disappearance of self-identified females from those good old days. Miss Kenton, Miss Jean, and Beverly come immediately to mind as the Women of Fifty-Plus, since I have met them all in person.

I considered Miss K the doyenne of the Forum with her savvy and witty posts.
Were you, @digitalG, also known as the Deege?

Until I have ten posts, I can't quote urls. Sigh.

'm trying to remember my screen name back then. I was known as Deege, that's for sure. I'm trying to see if the admins can reconnect me to my old name (whatever it was). So excited to be back!

Welcome back, Kotter.

Does Reno have some elevation resulting in cold winters?

Heh!

I remember Clementine too now that you mention her; I think you posted about her over on Hybrid, iirc. That's where I hang out quite a bit; always have -- never been a drop-bar guy.

The Diegos have passed into the mists of time. Apparently, they were not appreciated by some, way back when. I believe they can be found at the Lawrence Welk Retirement Resort, in Escondido, enjoying retirement and obscurity. I haven't heard a peep from them in years.

Nope, not at all. I had lost my original screen name information when I came back (briefly) three years ago. I had to start a new account. When I came back this time, I still didn't know my original info and so logged on with the newer name, thinking it was the older one. When I discovered I had only two posts to my credit, I began searching high and low for the original info. When I finally got it figured out (even remembering my old password), I came back as my original self. I hope I'm explaining that correctly. The new, 2-post DG isn't a sock puppet account and I won't be using it. If there's a way of deleting it, someone let me know.

It's hard enough being DG with one identity, let alone two!

I would recommend () that we have no SockPuppet cyclists on BF 50+.

Sounds like a diegosinthemaking.

Hi Deege!

Step 1: We admitted that we were powerless over posting on BF and that our lives had become unmanageable.

You tell him Retro - you KatyJunkie.

Deege - Reno is a whole new mindset from S. Cal. You have to learn feet and hands and the rest will follow. The cycling season really opens up with the right "cold but dry" gear. And the truly winter months you need to be skiing, Downhill or X-Country. Yes, LotusFlowerfromtheSouth, you can find happiness in Reno.

Just Keep on Truckin

edit: If you want to be a bit off th wall - they invented a Place for That Here = called Pub 51. Not many folks really, most members stick to the straight and narrow. Safer than the old Lounge, too.

There's so much truth in that. I was thinking today about how ironic I get bitten by the cycling bug now, and we got five inches of snow yesterday. No skiing for moi, although I'm surrounded by great ski slopes. The last time I skied I fell over turning my head to see if I could see the 7-year-old yelling "To your left!" By that point, he was way beyond me.

I'll use the remaining wintery months contemplating whether I'm going to let Mrs. Jones go, and considering whether it's time for a 'bent.
