Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Incline Village,NV where we stay at Lake Tahoe has added a major improvement to the municipal infrastructure, a 2 mile long MUP along the lake from the east edge of town to the nearby free beaches along Route 28. Very classy job with loads of parking at the town end. There used to be a real cluster **** with the parking all up and down the road in front of the beaches. It's not high season anymore, but still it looks like a major improvement. And a nice path for hiking, jogging, cycling away from traffic.

I'm contemplating building a pool table room, detached from the house. Air conditioned. It's that time of life. The dream has been 40 years long.

I'm also contemplating adding on to the woodshop and moving my general workshop out there. Then the space where it is now could be dedicated to just bikes.

I continue to contemplate becoming a Mexican citizen. It would open so many doors.

In my first house, I turned the separated garage into a playroom for the kids/family room. I always regretted not having it attached to the house. It was always inconvenient, and a huge pain in bad weather. YMMV.

The only bad weather we have here is too much heat. And in this case detached is much more convenient, due to the construction techniques used.

Pretty happy with the morning ride. Couldn't dawdle all day, family stuff later, so I rode one of my standard 2h 30m loops, but did it in about 2h 16m. Effort numbers were good (for me), flirting with 800kJ/hr and an NP of 240w. I'm not going to be threatening any land speed records, but it's nice to see progress.

I can't keep up with As the Antonio Turns - what's the latest? He posted a convo with Chucky, he apologized profusely to save his contract, etc, but I haven't seen anything on his playing status.

Willier Cento1Hybrid bicycle joins the mighty Pcad Peloton Fleet. About 27 lbs., so it's heavy for a modern road bicycle, but it's the lightest e-bike currently made. 250w of assistance (there are three levels controlled by a button on the top tube). It flattens the hills big time (motor is in the rear hub, it only provides assistance when you are pedaling). Rides more or less like a real road bike, but you do feel the extra 10lbs. No worries, 250w is enough to offset 50+ extra pounds let alone 10.

It doesn't look like an e-bike at all. I've never had disc brakes on a road bicycle, they're great. I'm sure they will be MUCH better in the wet. You can ride this e-bike in the rain, the owner's manual says that, but you wouldn't want to immerse it in water. I would take this out on a some wet days, but not if it's really hammering rain.

I only use the assistance on upgrades. The manufacturer claims that the assistance only works up to 16mph, but on the first ride it was consistently providing juice @ speeds of up to 19-22 mph which was a very pleasant surprise. BIG fun to ride - you may burn slightly fewer calories per mile, but it makes you want to go farther and harder, so I felt I got a a workout similar to my regular bicycles. Maybe better just because it's such a blast.

Pretty nice spec, the newest Ultegra (this bike has mechanical, not electronic shifting) is very slick stuff. The only disappointment is aluminum rims. I would have rather paid $200 more and gotten carbon rims, but I'm sure the high end bicycle mail order boys @ Competitive Cyclist were trying to keep the retail price under $6K and so they did. The price on these will drop and the selection will broaden, EVERYBODY is going to have to make these bikes, many are coming out, some are way pricier. They'll come down within a year or two.

A very impressive and slick for an early offering in this space, these are going to be the hot velo retail trend in the next few years. When some local fatso drops you on that hill, they may be engaged in mechanical doping like your Uncle Pcad.

Bike weenie heaven, at least for a while.

I WISH I could do that! One time, I forgot to move the bikes out of the garage and I’m still cleaning wood dust off the chains . Dust extraction doesn’t really help to that degree, sigh.

After work I rode out to the local killer hill, did 4 circuits, and rode home. I got a great workout and the weather was gorgeous. My app failed, so it did not count. Right?

Sad!

If we can remember what we learned this morning, we are now hammock independent.
I never entertained the thought that it could be so straightforward a process.
