Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

A young amazon caught up with me as I was creeping along at my geriatric pace this morning and started chatting. She named a destination involving a minimum of 80 mi. and made it plain that she was interested in having company for some part of the route. I could sort-of hang on the uphills because of my saltine-like physique, but her better pace on the flats told quickly and, finally, with a cheerful wave, she did on me what the yacht racers call a “horizon job.” Ah, youth.

All in all, I was pleased that I looked fast and non-creepy.

Kudos for not being creepy.

You’re both right, but I'd have to be faster to be effectively creepy.

Remember when there was an orgy of games on New Years day. Every channel all day long. That's how I used to remedy my hangovers, laying on the couch watching football.

Now . . . not.
