I use OSM maps all the time. There are different places you can download different styles. The one I use is Routable Bicycle (Openfietsmap Lite) from Free worldwide Garmin maps from OpenStreetMap. You can also try https://www.openmapchest.org/, https://www.velomap.org/ or https://www.gpsfiledepot.com/index.php. You can also take a look at https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/...armin/Download for more information.

Bikes: A few older US made Cannondales, a modern Soma Saga (no longer made, alas!), and one gifted crabon Specialized. Never enough.

Thanks for your replies!!
Here is my specific question. The maps are ready to be downloaded. Do I download to the SD card while it is in the Garmin? Or can I download to the SD card only via a reader?
Thanks!

Either way works I’ve tried both ways. I normally download with the card in the Garmin it seems easier to me. I can charge it at the same time and don’t need to take the card out and put it back in.

For me it copies a lot faster directly to the card.

Again thanks for the replies!
So it appears that I will need more than 1 map for Europe because of the file size? Do I put them on different SD cards?

If the maps fit on an SD that’s 32 g or smaller, load it up. Here’s Garmins info on SD card size limits

https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?fa...si3TdlPaIw4G7A

Note that I’ve experienced slow boot times with a large amount of data on a card as the device indexes the maps on the card upon boot. That can sometimes take time.

If you are going to one place in Europe, just download what you need.

You can download by country or by a custom region.

It's much smaller and much faster.

If you download what you need before you go, you will have the latest maps.

It's something that is much easier to do after the first time.

Success!
Last night my wife and I sat do at the PC and after a few trial and errors we got the test map on our Garmin 800.
Now I want to try to copy to the SD card directly.
