100 Mile Weekend

Hello Everyone!

I had to share about my awesome cycling weekend. I'm new to cycling. I bought my first road bike (Fuji Finest 1.0) on July 4, 2010 and I've been riding ever since. I normally ride around 20 miles or so, but I like to push the distance some when I have the time.

On Saturday husband and I went out on a ride thinking we would go towards a point for about an hour and then turn around and go home. After an hour we were so close to our destination (a certain bridge over a big river) that we kept going and made it all the way. We wound around back to home and ended up with a 41 mile ride. We averaged 15-16 mph.

On Sunday we rode with a group of 100 or so cyclists in a fun event ride. It was a 15 mile out and 15 mile back loop that you could do however many times you wanted. I got done with the first 30 mile loop and thought "what the heck!" and went out for another loop. I was tired and the wind picked up towards the end, but I did it. I rode 60 miles in about 4 hours and it feels like a great accomplishment.

I'm an athena and I probably always will be, but I'm finding that I'm pretty strong. That's an awesome feeling!

I just had to share.

(Pictures- The one by the river is Saturday. The one in the brown jersey is after my 60 miles yesterday)

Way to go! I can only assume from the smile on your face in the Saturday pic that you're not in the act of chucking the bike off the bridge or anything foolish like that.

Great work~! 100 mile weekend - that means it's time to build up to the 100 mile day (as long as it's fun of course)

Very nice weekend it sounds like. Thanks for sharing the report.

BTW, your bike matches the truck nicely.

Thanks everyone. I had so much fun. I definitely want to work up to a century. It will be a few weeks before I have the time to go on another long ride, but I'll be looking forward to it.
