DA 7900/7950 crankset to replace a 7700 crankset?

I have a 2002 Litespeed with DA 7700 components. Still love the bike, but with all the hills here in Austin I could use a little more low end gearing (already have a 12/27 cassette). Is it possible to swap out my current crankset for the 7950 compact crankset?

Yeah, I have a customer who did basically that, except he went Ultegra 6750. The rest of his bike's Ultegra 6500, same generation as 7700 as you probably know. It worked out pretty well; I'd suggest the matching 10sp Shimano chain to go with that.

To add to mechBgon's comments, you'll also need a new bottom bracket (might have been obvious) and you'll need to lower your front derailler for the smaller big chainring and readjust tension(less obvious). There's also a small chance that you'll need to shorten your chain but unless you are already on the edge of a too long chain, that won't be necessary.
