I solved my gearing problem. I love riding my Trek 750 with last generation Super Record, but trying to ride around SW Wisconsin with 42x24 granny gear just doesn't work anymore. It is do-able, but just not a good idea. So I stumbled across a TA Carmina crank. These are the cranks that let you install your own spider and run just about any combination of rings and sizes. Peter White Cycles has lots of TA stuff in stock so I got a 110 spider and a couple of TA Zephyr rings, and now I have gear inches (48/34 rings) compatible with my terrain and age. I used the existing Campy spindle and get almost the same chain line - the right crank leaves room for a third ring so it kicks the chain line out a few mm. It shifts the front really well, in part because the modern TA rings have ramps. They look pretty good on a CV also.
My 760 w/ SR handles a 28 in the back no problem

Headset service on a newly acquired Legnano Gran Premio, unknown year. Seller thought it was a '58 or '59. I've contacted Legnano expert Condorino, but he hasn't replied yet. The steerer tube has interesting markings "T d F" (Tour de France?) and "54". I've heard some makers mark the year of mfg on the steerer, so now, I'm wondering. It has a steel cottered crank (my first) which I also need to get apart to service the BB, which I'm sure is as gummy as the headset, but still spins freely. I also did the tinfoil chrome polish trick, which worked great on the pitted chrome bits. Some are too far gone, but a lot of it cleaned up nice. I heard that the Campy Gran Turisimo rear derailleur is dated from the 70s, so it might not be original. It came with old Ballila side pull brakes. It's a great riding bike, just not sure what I've got.
Steerer markings?

I will take one in full light as soon as it stops snowing and raining here. So you get a 28 to work with traditional 52-42 in front? That is pretty close to the gear inches I've got. But I do like the 48 front, I can sit in that ring for all of the undulating roads.

@merziac, I am amazed that you remembered that I was involved in a steerer tube threading project!
When I asked Elliott Bay Cycles to extend the treads on a replacement fork with a very long steerer tube, they said said they’d only add 1/2” maximum, while I was looking for much more (it was really long steerer, and I was putting it in a 60cm frame). I eventually found a shop that would do it with a die. It wasn’t a difficult process. @ryansu, the shop that did that extension was Alki Bike & Board, just up the street from you. But I also think @gugie would do a better job with appropriate cutting oil, etc.
However, I’ve learned why Elliott Bay would limit the thread extension - the stem expander puts high internal radial stresses on the steerer tube, and a conical-style expander concentrates those stresses in one a short length of the steerer. Imagine if that’s happening in the threaded, hence weakened, section of a steerer. I’m pretty sure that’s what happened to the steerer tube on @RiddleOfSteel’s ‘74 Paramount before his rescue and @gugie’s incredible fix. The steerer tube was broken just above the start of the threading, well below the top of the head tube. BTW, a wedge-style expander has the advantage of spreading the radial stress over a length of the steerer.
So if you do proceed with this fork with extended threads, it sure seems like a very long quill stem, such as the ever-popular Nitto Technomic, would be highly advisable, with a modified minimum insertion that keeps the expander wedge below any threads.

What am I doing today? realizing hopeful optimism is no substitute for accurate measurements. The replacement fork I got off ebay was 2 cm longer in the steer tube than the original but the threaded section is the same 3 cm length for both meaning I don't have the threads needed to snug up the headset. Sigh.

Well after reaching out 5 different shops/Builders I finally found one who said they could do it and quoted a reasonable price to add threads to the fork above so I can try it on the Cresta GT. @gugie I will let you know how it goes but the cost is less than the tank of gas it would take to get me to PDX so I figure its worth a shot.

Weird timing here. I recently dumpster dived a front fender. Fender was broken but it had a similar nice stainless steel stay loop. I found that nicely spanned the gap between the mid fork mounting bolts on my Voyageur and the bottom of my handlebar bag. I've wanted to ensure I could carry some weight in that bag so I installed that loop and fabricated an interface with the bag's support. Nice and solid now so should work out great on rail trail tours (ex: GAP, C&O, Northern Rail Trail, etc).
Always interesting to see something for what it could be vs what it was.

Worked on a few bikes. First in the sun, then in the rain and hail. Ah, spring!
Doing a quick overhaul on this Koga-Miyata GentsTour bike to make it rideable again and turn it into a cheap tourer for a friend.
Since I will be building new wheels for the Gazelle and it came with some excellent wheels and a full Shimano SLX RC group I decided to put most of those on his bike.
I do have to get some baking soda tomorrow and do some work on the rust though. And measure the seattube as none of the seatposts I still had fit.

After whiffing on 4 shops/builders a LBS responded that they could do it no problem and the cost was reasonable (Aaron's bike Shop). I was in and out of the shop in 5 minutes! When I get some time I am going to ride the bike back to back with the different forks just to test out the feel.

16 mile ride on my $100 Clunker Challenger Legnano. I put some newer used tires on for tomorrow's Pasadena Vintage ride. Made it almost 16 miles - one block from home the front flatted. Funny, that never happened with new Gatorskins. I walked it home and changed to a different patched tube, and will try it again tomorrow in Pasadena.
I got the brake levers too high, but this used bar tape is temporary.

Well, what I've been doing is cleaning up and posting a couple of bikes locally. I need to thin out the herd as the bike cave is busting at the seems. So I went over the Paramount, Prologue and one Lemond carefully, shot pics, and listed them locally.
I also finished up some maintenance on the Davidson and then took it out for fastest ride of the year, so far.
And then as the "bike weekend" continued I swapped out the wheels, tires, cassette, seatpost, and saddle on the new to me Evans and dropped 3 lbs off it's total weight. Then I took it out after the Davidson for a nice spin.
I'm also planning the build and collecting parts for the build of my 4th Giordana, a 89-90ish Scorpius.
Just mounted those tubulars using tape for the first time. Today I'll be cleaning the glue off a set of Campagnolo hubbed, Mavic GP4 rimmed tubulars to prepare them for new tires and a new build.

I spent Sunday swapping forks on my Cresta GT and then riding the bike with the different forks back to back for comparison. @gugie was nice enough to help fix my crashed original fork and it got the bike back on the road, a minor miracle in itself. I found the re bent fork made the handling feel twitchy so I bought a Schwinn passage fork on ebay and then discovered it didn't have enough threads on the steerer tube and found it difficult to find someone willing to add more threads, but with allot of encouragement from BF and 5 calls to shops/builder I found that Aaron's bike shop in White Center could do it and for just $25! One builder quoted me a (we don't want to do it) price of $200. Anyway with the Passage touring fork it felt more like its stately self so I am going to put some more miles on it to be sure and then will probably rattle can the fork white to get the bike looking like it did before my March crash.

Don’t like the two bolt way of pulling the shift chain out of the hub. Found a single one at the LBS dark bin and switched them.
This is on the 79 Twenty folder.

Did 14 .5 miles on my '78 PR10, cool, gray day, but a nice ride. Had a front inside chain drop approaching a shop light. Need to tweak the front derailleur a little. Second ride since a crank change to a Stronglight 99 following Eroica Swap meet.

Beautiful bike. I want to change the Stronglight 106 on my 1982 PXN 10 to a Stronglight 99; I'll likely run 47/34 rings on it.
