What is the Value of my Giubilato Italian Road Bike? - 21.5"
Hi everyone,
my friend bought a bike a couple years ago, and it turned out to be an old italian (from what he understands, steel) bike.
It's a 1980s 21.5" Italian Steel Frame Bike. Red , white, and blue. Brand: Giubilato.
I am wondering what the resale value of this bike is. All the parts are Shimano, and the wheels are hutchinson nitro series 2.
We really appreciate your help!

Ask on the C & V Valuation forum. Link below. The people that know that information frequent that. Best wishes.

We'll need much more information, starting with pictures (you will be unable to post them until you have ten posts, but if you post a link to them on a third party site someone will help post them). We need to know which level the Shimano parts are, and any stickers on the frame indicating tubing.

$175-200? Components are essentially worthless, and not a high-dollar Italian name. Wheels and frame/fork are the good bits.

I'd go a little higher than @coolkat, but asking/selling prices arne't always the same, and they vary across the USA and around the world.
I'd put about $200 on the frame. It looks like a well built frame.
But, the component selection throughout the build is the cheapest possible selection. Steel seat post?
So... total... maybe $250 to $300.

Real nice mid level Italian frame set from the early 80's but the components and build seem cheap random and just not well done. As presented I would say $175 with nearly all the value in the frame set.

The frame's cosmetic condition is only fair with a mish-mash of primarily entry level components from various eras. The frame itself appears to be mid to late 1980s but does not exhibit the features typical of high end models from the period. It would appear to be no better than mid-range and possibly lower. Pending information on the tubeset, I'd assess this at ~$200.

Italian bikes tended to have plain looking lugs. French bikes tended to have more ornate lugs (but many were factory lugs, Nervex).
DT water bottle bosses but no ST water bottle bosses would probably put the bike in the late 70's to early 80's.
It has a few makers pantographs (seat stay caps, fork crown), hidden fork crown lugs.
Mid length campy droputs.
The chainstays appear to be straight (no dimpling for tire/crank clearance).
My guess is that it was native 700c, probably designed for sewups or narrow racing tires.
If it is lacking anything, it would be chrome head lugs (not all frames had them), and some type of hidden cable routing.
I don't see the tubing decal, but it could well be Columbus SL.
The frame may not have been exceptional, but would certainly have been on the par with an early Colnago Mexico. But, unfortunately lacking the brand recognition.

Second bottle cage mounts , braze on front DR tab and braze ons or internal cable routing for nice clean routing of full length rear cable housing and nice integrated fork crown From what I see. While nice most of the details on this bike are some what dated for when it was made typical of mid level bikes.

If the frame is mid 70's to early 80's, then all of those features would not be expected.
If it is late 80's to early 90's, then those would be expected features.
The frame features make me think it is a slightly older frame.
The paint makes me think of a slightly newer frame.
Nonetheless, the frame would have been built in a transition period for the industry as a whole.

Prices on relatively unknowns and condition issues with no high end parts. I also think $150 or so. Unless you are retired and don't mind pulling bikes apart and making a living on $10-20 gains (with no loss of time invested) it is just that way in this market.

Early Mexicos have Columbus Record tubing (as in the same tubing as the bike Merckx rode to the world hour record in Mexico and easily the most advanced tubing of the era.)
At the time Colnago's top model and positioned way above the Super.
You are maybe thinking of the Export or Sport model?
