I finally pulled my '83 PL-20 out of its 13yr storage in a trailer in a field. That's a bad place to be if your a steel bike. I threw this bike together after my original Reynolds 531 SE Quadangle got stolen sometime around '85. I didn't really want the Redline, but at the time it was the biggest 20" that wasn't a flatland freestyle bike and the price was right. To this day there is still a bone of contention on how I acquired the bike. It used to have some 401 Flights on it but since they are 180 I leave them on the 26" Littlejohn. These original Profiles are 175. I always had a hodgepodge of wheels because I just grabbed what the shop had at the time. I love the Araya aero rims, tuff as nails, but can't quite handle a 30 ft, front wheel landing jump without a little flattening. By the time I was putting this together we couldn't get them anymore so I had to use the Ukai's we had. Funny thing is I could swear this bike had a set of white CW bars as that was all I rode at the time (knee clearance) but when my nephew gave it back to me it had these GT bars on it. I didn't question at the time because I was just happy to get something back.

First thing I will have to do is take more pictures. Then figure out where to store the parts while I decide if I repaint or not. The paint isn't that bad and doesn't bother me but the amount of rust that has crept in does and I am a practical sort of person. I consider it my job to refurbish what I can but maintain it with a new coat if it needs it. I'm afraid that is the case here and patina be damned. I'll try and add some close-ups later. We used to drill out the MX brakes in favor of the original Nippon pivot bolts. I loved, and still love the original MX's but those pivots sucked. When the Nippon's came out they adjusted from the rear so the never loosened up. The brake levers are Magura's and I think almost everyone of my friends, as they got older, got these levers to replace the dainty DC two fingers. And they gave you more room for your fingers than the DC mountain levers of the day.
