The bike legs were amusing to watch. The course was a north/south route about a mile and a half in each direction and they rode three laps for a total of about nine miles. During the race the wind was out of the south at 17 mph with gusts to 35.
During the southbound leg on the bike the racers were suffering into that wind. Then on the northbound leg they were flying.
A friend who also ran the race said he was getting about 13 mph on the southbound leg and anywhere from 30 to 35 mph on the northbound leg.

Froggy Bottoms Pub in Northfield has the best bloody mary's and some really nice outdoor patio space along the river. Makes for a great bicycle cycle destination especially since it's an easy 25 mile ride down (50 mile round trip) from my home along easy rollers and what is generally a crosswind instead of a headwind, but on the occasion I do end up with a headwind/tailwind situation it's always a headwind down and a tailwind home.

Yesterday they were not predicting conditions favorable to tornado development. They were predicting hail though. I'm guessing that hail on all those crabon fiber bikes would have had crabon assplosions all over the place.

I don't get it, really don't get it. We are, in essence, rather puny specimens of mammalian biology on the earth, and civilization only seems to make us more so. So this danger/adventure thing seems to me a strangely distorted view of reality. I see car commercials here all the time for "adventure vehicles", that sell cars by promising they will keep you safe in the severest of circumstances. Here is something that happened a week or two ago near here in Yosemite.
Here is another classic.
It's almost like we are in the process of losing the survival instinct. I have done plenty of dangerous, slightly nutty stuff for money, but I just do not get it. I would say maybe I'm just too old, but the guy in Idaho was 73 when he went down in flames. #stillalottalions

Yesterday my youngest daughter and oldest daughter participated in triathlons. It was a good day for both of them.
The oldest was in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin for the USAT Junior Elite draft legal race. She finished 39 out of 47 females in that race. While the may not sound like a good finish, her success was that she discovered that there is a whole other level of competition out there and that she needs to start taking training seriously if she wants to get to the top of the sport.
The youngest was at the Leon's triathlon. She won her age group and had a very good day. Her performance was pretty good one.
