you know what...i don't remember and i pride myself on remembering little road details. there wasn't on the upper half but the single-lane road was wide enough until the stop sign/road branching off to the west about halfway up
that came into existence around 2003. the upper part has always been a little slender but the sightlines are pretty good for motorists and they're usually chugging uphill pretty slowly there.
don't remember ever encountering a speed freak/wanker heading up/down that hill, just a loose dog or two. i don't think there is a bike lane but i hope i'm wrong as usual.

corral canyon is whatevs. can take or leave it. the last few years, i've opted to ascend and descend proctor valley rd. from'to bonita/sunnyside vs mt. miguel rd. i like the
dirt/gravel challenge. ride it 4-5x a year. it's much quieter and a nice change of pace/ some times (ascending), i've made it without putting a foot down/walking
a short stretch riding '23's. other times, it's clip out before falling over in deep sand/gravel at 3 mph. forces you to pay attention to your lines. still a comparable climb to mt. miguel rd.
just refreshingly different.

Proctor Valley Rd that goes under 125 past a lone house with a bus? I went that way once years ago after I saw Mount Miguel and said nope. I was sure I was gonna get a flat on my road bike.

yuup that be the one. extra credit doing the unpaved proctor valley rd. stretch between jamul and the upper otay lake area. much longer. sometimes the road is soupier than other times.

Rode up to Painted Cave and La Cumbre. Painted Cave road is the steepest sustained climb I've ever done but thanks to my granny gears it wasn't too bad.

50 miles this morning along the Santiago Cyn corridor. Hopped on Silverado, Live Oak, Glenn Ranch/Saddleback in an O/B. First time on Glenn/Saddleback, nice combo on a warm day to get the lungs going.

Glenn Ranch Road is a tough little climb. I've done it twice from El Toro all the way up and it nearly killed me.

Drove to Del Mar and then took the tandem with the wife up to Carlsbad.
It was a total 4th of July zoo out there today. Cagers everywhere darting in and out of any and all available parking spaces.

Parked at sorrento valley and rode to oceanside pier and back but had some fuel left in the tank and decided to climbed torrey pines. Alternating on and off saddle, I though, "this isnt too bad, what's the hype", but as soon as you get around the bend and realize you're only halfway, its demoralizing. Took a 5 min breather and finally did it. Next time no stops! Total of 50 miles.

Conejo Valley to Stunt for a climb. Really warm out there! Over to Piuma for the descent, Las Virgenes to Agoura Rd and a few other turns. Forty miles.

Rescue equipment passed me on Mulholland. Heard someone overcooked a corner on Seven Minute Hill and wiped out. Hope they are okay.

Bonked horribly two weeks ago riding up to Crystal Lake so I thought I have to fix this and did. Rode from Pioneer Park up to Hwy 39 Lookout.

Returned via East Rd and NGMR. 59 miles and 7.5 K of climb. Only a few scattered cyclists out today.

Left at 0500 to beat the heat. Did a tour of La Habra Hgts -Whittier Hills. Pic is from the top of Ardsheal Dr and Skyline looking towards the coast.

48 miles and 5K ft of climb and back home by 0930. Heat really slows me down.

yeah, the heat!
I did GMR/GRR this morning, but didn't start until 8:30a
Got a PR to the shack, but then was 5% slower on the second half when the heat started to kick in.
Not too many cars, even though it's open to cars now.
Gonna hop in the pool now and cool down

Same ride I've been doing most weekends. Point Loma to Swami's. But this time, with a group that was just a bit faster than me.
Result was that I was pushing harder than I wanted to for over 50 miles, just to keep their pace.
Last five miles was utterly exhausting.

made it up to palos verdes to do a ride with fellow socal forumite Tycho Brahe. started in torrance near the i-section of hawthorne and 190th. took 190th west up the big hill, did some braude beach path to the snack shack at path’s end and up another big hill. a 56-miler with approx 32 of those winding around, up and down those peevee streets. nearly perfect day weatherwise on the peninsula. pavement generally above average sweet. a few, close to post-ride, adult bevvies at the brews hall on the edge of del amo mall was a nice capper.

Up Rock Store-along the top of Mully and down most of the three stingers towards Encinal. Turn around and climb up to the top and descend Westlake/Decker. A touch of Hidden Valley and finally back to Agoura. 36 miles. Started early and home before 11 as the heat was intense.

Not even trying to ride on this Sunday as it's way warm!

Rode up to the Hwy 39 Lookout again past the Crystal Lake Rd turn. I could hear some heavy equipment off in the distance further up Hwy 39. Refilled my water bottles at the spring on the descent. Veered off to the utility road that runs along the West Fork of the San Gabriel river up to Glenn Camp which was vacant. Really nice tree canopy and canyon walls give a nice respite from the sun.

60 miles and 6.2 K of climb today.

north from metro san diego along kearny villa rd (parallel to the 15 fwy), meandered through some mira mesa neighborhoods and settled
at gravity heights brewery for lunch. post-lunch, mira mesa rd to sorrento valley rd (still horrible pavement) into carmel valley. over to the coast
highway and then south up torrey pines grade. past ucsd, down to la jolla village, along the coast and through pacific/mission beach.
delicately negotiated midway drive (direct but still sh***y pavement for two miles and up washington to hillcrest.
back down the hill to fathom tap room on the shelter island pier past the airport for a few adult bevvies, then around the curve of the bay into
dtown san diego and barrio logan, up sherman heights and into south path + north park and then home. good weather. a little breezy.
a little humid for the region. 75 relatively easy miles all told. saw fewer cyclists than usual.

A nice wake up ride with a surprise on the PET in Rancho Cucamonga, very happy there was enough light to see the branch around the corner.

Hit the road at 0500 from home and headed on over to catch sunrise over Tonner Canyon riding on Grand into Chino Hills. Looped around Chino Hills climbing Chino Hills Pkwy and Eucalyptus before heading back over Grand thru Diamond Bar. I intentionally avoided Carbon Cyn Rd this time due to a series of accidents on this road that is often used as a raceway.
https://carboncanyonchronicle.blogsp...qm-LyqIxXEQ2oc
Stopped at Summit Park to snap a pic due west of the park.

Finished the ride by heading back over Diamond Bar-Pathfinder-Old Fullerton Rd and cruised some mild hills Cypress/Skyline. Pic is of Powder Canyon looking down Airoso.

A lot of Cyclists out enjoying the sunshine along the way. Completed 62 miles and 6.4 K of climb.
