I started back up last week with 10 miles, adding a mile a day. Then after eleven miles the next day, my foot hurt a little, and I decided to lay off until my next doctor's appt., which was this morning. X-rays show the bone is fused (like it's supposed to be), and best of all, bike riding is approved. So for August so far:
8/3 - 12.2 miles
--------------------
MTD: 12.2 miles
As for a goal, if I stick to my add-a-mile-a-day strategy, I'll hit 714 miles by the end of the month. That might be a little ambitious, so I'm going to go for 400 and be happy if I hit it.
Still can't fit a bike shoe on that foot so I'm riding like this:
But I found some wide shoes online and they're supposed to be here Wednesday, so hopefully this won't go on much longer.

Goal for August - 700 miles
7/01 - 18
7/02 - 62
7/03 - 43
MTD - 123
Started raining about halfway through the ride, so I ended up taking a shorter route. Tomorrow it’s supposed to rain all day, the remnants of the tropical storm.

I've been up to my neck in work, and when I'm free it's storming. I'm at a whopping 0 miles so far. Might not hit 100 the way it's going.

Added a pic of my bike from a couple years ago. If you look in the background you can see a camel. This was taken near here in Parker, Tx.

I must live within five miles of where this pick was taken, but I’m not sure where it is. I know a few donkeys on my various rides, but I’ve yet to meet the camel.

I bet you have ridden by there, but the pic was taken in 2015. It’s Dublin road in Parker. Last time I went by there he wasn’t there, I suspect that the lot was turned into a new big house and the Camel was sent to a new farm further out in the country

Knees started acting up again riding the single speed lately , so this morning I picked my Schwinn Crisscross to ride . I’m glad I did. My knees feels better after my ride than they did when I started.

Okay, that narrows it down. There's a house on Dublin that has five emus in the back acreage that I've driven by a few times lately.

Late afternoon departure after the rain moved out. Clear skies, but the humidity lingered. As I’m riding partially on gravel I noticed the chain gets dry and dirty much faster.

8/3 - 12.2 miles
8/4 - 13.2
--------------------
MTD: 25.4 miles
Using a different route to build incremental miles, it's all uphill from about mile 3 to mile 14, should be great for (re)developing my climbing abilities (it's the Sepulveda Pass, if you're familiar with L.A.). The sneaker I wore on the right foot yesterday is a cross-trainer, with significant amounts of sole extending from the left side, which isn't good for comfortable placement of that foot on the Look pedal. Found a different sneaker, a dance shoe my wife bought for me that didn't work for dancing (the toe is at least 3/4" past the end of my big toe), but its flat, (relatively) narrow sole works well for bicycling, and it fits comfortably with the laces loosened liberally. Hopefully this will be a moot point by tomorrow when the wider bike shoes get here.

Didn't wait for the new shoes to get here, did my ride before the sun got hot. But they got here:
And they're wider, and the right one fits on my foot. Took it out for a short test flight, and so far, so good, we'll see what 15 miles feels like in them tomorrow.
