Volkscycle MarkX

This is my bike ab out 45 years old, upgraded over the years. It is too big for me, what should I ask for it in a sale? 18 speed, aluminum rims, always kept in garage, new tubes on good tires.

If you know that it's worth only XYZ then I suggest finding someone who needs a bike (friend or family member) and passing it on.

Why not just keep riding the bicycle? While it may be too big, that hasn't stopped you riding it and investing in it over the last 45 years.

I have a new frame on the way that is the correct size and none of the stuff will fit it.. When I got it I knew NOTHING about bikes (not much more now) and did not know, other than the fact that it was not the easiest bike to get on and off of, it was too big for me. If it doesn't sell I will donate it too some HS kid with no money.

pre pandemic, $75 would have been a reasonable price for this bike. Bikes have gone up in price so this may be worth more but this is not a particularly valuable bike and it has a lot of lower end parts. So maybe $125 in today's market.

Do you have the original parts? Those actually may have some value on eBay if they are in decent shape. This bike still has the original brakes and I think the other parts were a similar quality.

As you don't have the other original components, clean up and sell the Dura Ace calipers separately, get between $20 and $40 for them, they look in pretty good shape (prices vary, one set on eBay recently went for $15 + shipping, others more) then get some generic brakes from a co-op or whatever, and list the bike for $100, and expect to take 80. We don't know where you are, but if you're in a hot market it could be more. Here in DC in the time of COVID clean rideable bikes go for $250 all day. Cleaner bikes take better pictures and go for more money. That one shot of the seatpost with grease all over and scratched seat stays really detracts from the perceived value.
