S24O on the North Trask
Many forum members have done the North Trask ride, a hard, beautiful, wonderful ride from Portlandia to Tillamook via forestry roads.

So Steve, his son Luke and myself left Monday in the afternoon and rode from Yamhill, up The Hill, through the woods, and did the slalom run to the campsite. We figured Monday evening would ensure us that no one else would be there - which turned out to be correct. Social distancing was easy.

The Hill is a long, steep, loose gravel hill. We stopped several times to rest our bikes and let them cool off

Seeing these pictures makes it clear to me that I made a mistake by not ditching work to do this ride. The memory of how I felt by the time we got to Tillamook the year I did the ride offers some reassurance that it wasn't a terrible mistake.

Just from a ride down the road at home tonight only 6km's. It helps me reactivate muscles and recovery after a long Sunday ride.

At one time it was an Agricultural Corridor, but I think Recreational is correct.
Now it's just a 'short-cut' to the more congested corridors.

It doesn’t take much planning when the weather is nice to go somewhere close and ride in the mountains.
Wednesday was forecasted to be hot and sunny.
A call the day before to my friend Ty, suggesting a route known locally as the “TripleByPass” and an early start time and we’re good to go.
In the morning I pack a few sandwiches, make sure the bike is in good order and drive down to the East entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park where I meet him at the foot of Stevens Canyon Road.
It’s chilly at the start but that doesn’t last long as we start off immediately with a 13 mile / 3200 foot climb up Cayuse and Chinook Passes.

Tipsoo Lake near the summit of Chinook Pass was clear of snow, 3 weeks ago when I last rode up here it was still covered in snow.

We drop down off Chinook Pass, in the big ring for the next 45 miles. It’s downhill all the way into the heat of Eastern Washington.

Highway 410 ends when we reach US 12 a few miles outside the town of Natches. The heat radiating off the pavement was registering 97 degrees on Ty’s Garmin. But as we turned West on US 12 we now had a pretty good headwind which I didn’t mind at all. It helped cool things down.

We went through water like crazy. Fortunately, there as several small groceries along the way and I think we stopped at each one of them to replenish.

That’s a great ride Matt. I remember the Rimrock grocery and very blustery weather at the White Pass summit around this time last year. You PNW guys are doing some great riding!

NYC heat & humidity kept me from any long rides since mid June. Today was forecast to be cooler day and my meetings schedule was unusually light so I took a day off and rode to Coney Island. Not as epic as the adventures above, but a good 45 mile outing nonetheless.

Great memories! Going down the backside of White Pass, taking turns spinning out and passing each other on a no-brakes required downhill made me feel like a kid again. Watching Jim G. having one or two too many beers in Natches, sending him into "I love you guys" mode, priceless.
