Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

For sure.

A few weeks ago I tried some gravel tires on the narrow rims that came on the 6.9 Domane Disc, and really enjoyed the ride. Road riding was a little strange on those tires, but the smooth ride was amazing. They were a little slow, but they were inflated to 48psi.

the 30mm wide G-One speed, on wide hoops should give a smooth and fast ride.

Price looks amazing for the weight and depth of the wheels. Just checking some of the other major brands most of them cant touch that weight for that price at all. Id like to see actual weights of the wheels when you get them.

I picked up and mounted some Continental 5k Tubeless tires last. I couldnt find any of the tires online but my local bike shop had them for 78 bucks a piece. Havent ridden them yet cause its been unusually cold here in SoCal.

How did you get them at $700 and 1483 grams?

What is the specific config?

Bitex, QR and non-disk?

Interesting offerings.. I wish they had more offerings though with Campy hubs and ability to go with 24/28 spoke configs.

I'm not too worried about that. Tires are cheap, and they only last a few months. I do wonder how many road miles to expect out of them. A few years ago I tried Maxxis Padrone tubeless, and wasn't very impressed. The tires were pretty expensive, the ride wasn't anything special, and the rear tire got sliced open after a few weeks.

Any idea how many miles to expect? I weigh about 175lbs, and the roads around here are pretty good(other than thorns)

freehub bodies are an easy swap, and they will do 24/28 spoke configurations upon request.

That's what I would have thought, but why offer the Campy freehubs only on the Novatec A291 hubs, but then no option for straight pull (Jbend only) and only 20/24? DT350s offer all of the choices, except a campy hub. Each hub seems to bring in restrictions on the rest of the configuration choices.

It's probably more of a website issue. If you read through the question/comments section, they seem willing to make configuration changes to those that ask. on person asked about using them on tandems, and LB responded that they would make a reinforced version of the for him.

I always forget to even make a mental note of my mileage when I swap tires, so I'm not the best person to ask. That said, I'm pretty certain that I've got about 2,000 - 2,500 on my current rear, and the micronubs on the center line are almost completely gone, but probably good for at least another 500 miles This at about 195lbs on roads that could generously be called a mixed bag.

I ran 38 mm G-One Allaround TLE on my gravel bike, probably 60% paved/40% gravel. They feel like a supple road tire and were a joy to ride. I was thrilled coming from a road background. They are race tires and wear as such. The rear tire lasted maybe 1200 miles.

Understand that this wasn't worn down to the cords but the micro-knobbies were worn to the point where they would not hold traction on loose/steep gravel and dirt while climbing out of the saddle. The rear wheel would would spin when standing to climb in low gear. I lived with it a few miles but the rear began breaking traction on aggressive turns and that's when they came off. I would have continued to ride them if the use case was 100% pavement.

Mine were the Allaround version. Yours is the speed version? Strictly road?

I run both the All-around and the Speed - Speed are more with pavement in mind, but are fine for light gravel. The nubs on the Speeds are far smaller - like Braille dots - compared to the All-around and there's no issue running them after the centerline has been worn smooth.

I joined the cult known as "Selle Anatomica Leather Saddle" in an H2 model. I was in San Diego on vacation and I stopped by their warehouse. They were super helpful and gave me some great tips. I hope my bum likes this saddle. They are having their 15% off sale currently.

I have the X2 model and really like it. Took a while to figure out the tension and angle. I carried allen keys with me and made adjustments on the fly till it felt right.

2500 miles is fine with me.

I was thinking about going with Pro-Ones, but saw reports of people wearing them out within 1000 miles. I don't want to be replacing tires every month.

Splurged at Competitive Cyclist on some needed upgrades:
Castelli Perfetto Convertible jacket to replace my poorly made and too baggy Gore Phantom.
Spurcycle black bell as an upgrade over my Mirrcycle Adjustabell that moves around too much on my drop.
