Should The Seller Open The Package?

I just saw this, it's clearly not "factory sealed" but the seller claims it is NOS. Should he open it?

In this case yes, unless they are very rare imperial/metric Patagonian Pattern Staples, only made on Tuesdays in Toulouse in 1966, so unable to be replicated to give the new owner the pleasure of opening that "Factory Sealed" package.

Should the seller open the package..?

I got my masters degree in psychology by studying why people do the things that they do. I found out that people do things for two and only two fundamental reasons - they have to or they want to.

In this case the seller does not have to open the package. Nor does he, apparently, want to open the package. So, no, the seller should not open the package.

You are no doubt "cool," but you must not be that "old" if you don't remember plastic bags from the factory closed with staples.

I don’t know if the seller should open the package. You should definitely not buy it. 50 years old, French, $80, No Go.

Al Pacino. And his lapels are most definitely not out of order, as anyone who's seen me wear a 40-year-old suit will attest.

The seller has listed it as a Huret Allvit rear derailleur, which it appears to be but the insert in the package has a line drawing on one side and the model number on the other for the Huret 700 front derialleur.

Kudos to Trevtassie for recognizing the staples as the real treasure in the auction...

after seeing the catalog page, the "1900" on the package refers to the Allvit...

...the Allvit ought to be more highly regarded. They always provided reasonable, if not exceptional performance. The Dodge Dart slant six of rear derailleurs.

Simple

the seller can do or not do what they want to help their sale

the potential buyer can ask but can't force and then decide to buy or not buy

no should involved

How come they always shift like crap when they're installed on an electroforged Schwinn, and break shifter cables right and left? The return springs on these guys could open up a drawbridge.

And since I'm being nitpicky...the Slant Six starves of oil during hard cornering. LeMons racers have figured that one out the hard way.

318 v8 had no problem with that though I am not sure what I could do with a 64 dodge 300 with 3 on the tree would match lemons.... but I tried hard
