90's Ross Mt. Whitney Signature

Full Deore DX groupset, except the front derailleur which is XT. 19" Was thinking about buying it for my wife to ride, keeping with my vintage theme. Seller posted it at the end of Feb for $175 and has dropped it to $150. Guess noone but me can stomach the 90s paint! Have been through the internet twice trying to find out when it was built, no luck. Way overpriced lower end Mt. Ranier Signature NOS on ebay it the closest I have seen. https://www.ebay.com/itm/272013080276

Deore DX was produced for the 1989 to 1993 model years but the presence of Rapidfire STI eliminates 1989, while the presence of a top pull front derailleur eliminates 1990 and 1991. That should make it 1992 or 1993. My 1992 shows two Mt. McKineley Signature models. On was a welded aluminum frame with Deore LX components, while the other was Tange Prestige with Deore XT and a Marzocchi suspension fork. 1993 again shows two versions, both with welded aluminum frames but one with Deore LX and the other with Deore XT. So, no match but I'd go with 1992-1993 on the basis of the top pull front derailleur. if you can get the seller to supply the serial number, it may provide a clue.

Edit: The Ebay Mt. Rainer is equipped with Shimano Exage ES, which was offered only in 1993. That at least raises the confidence level in the 1992-1993 timeline.

In my market, with the high quarantine demand, and if everything is working properly, the bike wouldn't last at $150. I'd try to get closer to $100 though.

I dig the paint, it may be ugly unique enough to prevent thieves. I do wish it had a paint matching fork, plus your wife can use it to ride up Mt Whitney

I would like to know what fork it has it just looks a bit off. 90% this bike would have had a threaded Suspension fork originally.

I think I am going to purchase it. Owner is driving it 1.5 hours to meet me, and we have agreed on $125. $100 for the bike, $25 for delivery. I will post the serial no. when I get it. I am attaching a picture from a ****** (apparently you can't say that Redd*t site) post with what the owner calls a '95 Mt. Whitney with LX components. Looks very similar.

I agree this bike probably had the suspension fork removed. Attached are some pics of the current fork. Anything I should be looking out for on this fork?

That 1995 does look newer than the subject bicycle. The front end of the down tube has been hydro-formed and it appears to use a larger headset system.

Sounds like you struck a fair and honorable deal with the seller.
