Redid the Atala. Now with Campy Mirage (except kept the crankset and front mech because of literal attachment--clamp vs. braze), Aks(ium) wheelset, red bar tape (inspired in part by @Andy_K).
Modification occasioned by finding a 2001 (or so) Bianchi Campione for my wife. I swapped over my newer Veloce components to her bike to give her more and kinder gearing, as well as the smaller shifters. The mismatched tires are a story, but basically, both Atala and Bianchi are running 28mm GP4000sii on the fronts and 25mm Conti GPs on the rears.

Here's another thread you can share it in: https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-v...tic-bikes.html
But maybe wait a couple of weeks.

My first reaction was that I would have stuck with white bar tape, but there's something kind of cool about this combination. It reminds me a bit of the old red, white and blue Paramounts.

I'll get better pictures, but for now, my newly updated '88 Trek 560 with full 7800-era Dura-Ace, courtesy of my much newer '16 Trek Emonda (where 7800 was still too old for it!). The 560 has found her components! Great climber, very smooth steering (62mm of trail!), and very dedicated to stability at speed. It's a big frame, and it comports itself as such, while still being willing to dance out of the saddle. A lot of tun! And soooo hot in that teal.

Thank you @plonz and @Lascauxcaveman ! The 7800 crankset's stiffness is certainly felt when I apply power, and of course is certainly appreciated in how that translates into speed. Fast and so very sure feeling. I rode it to work and around today, and will take it to work and to Bike Works tomorrow. My Guerciotti is wondering when its turn will be next, haha.
I bought this pair of Vuelta Corsa Lites new, and have a used pair as well. Both are of the sub-1600g variety and have held up very well. Keep them true and they seem to be just fine. I've read about the hubs going kaput but my used set is, I'd say, 4-6 years old? give or take, and it's just fine. The aluminum freehub body, like all aluminum freehub bodies, get's divots in its splines because of the cassette cogs digging in. That's the only bummer, really. Light, strong, and fast for 200+ lb guys like me. A great value, too. I'll take it!

My 96 Lemond Zurich with 5800
It's a 1996 Zurich, repainted, and built with 105 5800 and a threadless fork. The stem is a 90s era 1" Salsa road stem.

1988 miele equipe Columbus sl built up with campy centaur 10, wound up forks, gossamer polished crank. Built up to satisfy an itch for a stolen bike 30 years ago. Had a flat yesterday that left a gouge in the new gravel king 23s.

And I didn't think it was possible but i managed to go even shinier with my most recent build, almost full supernova....with my lovely 1985 Eddy Merckx Team Panasonic with full chrome fork and rear end which I have not seen many of. Columbus SLX, you guessed it, 20 speed Campag Ultra-shift, full Chorus. Another one that dazzles in the sunshine and gets lots of love from passers by and other cyclists. Seen here with black Shamals and Veloflex tan wall tyres that are my daily wheels for the Brian Rourke

The Panasonic is very nice! I have a mid-80's Merckx with a little more 'patina' and Ultegra (I know I know). It's a great bike. The Panasonic Merckx is what my Merckx would like to be someday.

Very nice DeRosa!
I’m curious about how much 105 5800 weighs compared to vintage group sets. The frame I have was stripped (by others) of some nice 600 Tricolor, and I’m worried my new build will actually be heavier.

I'd actually expect the brifters to be significantly heavier than brake levers plus downtube shifters. Of course, by "significant" I mean like maybe 200 grams, so yeah definitely not adding as much weight as that Brooks.

Yes, this definitely isn’t all about weight with these old steel frames. I have an old 1986 Schwinn Prelude that weighs 24.4 lbs at 58 cm with mostly original equipment (just has new tires, rim tape, and brake cables). It rides great, but it’s just a tad heavier than I would like, so I’m hoping my build of a 1987 Super Sport frame will be a couple pounds lighter (or more). Not going for 16 lb carbon racer specs or anything. 😁
