I wouldn't fault them for not knowing their components. Maybe they went to the LBS and had them help pick the bike? Maybe they faithfully return for routine service? Is the price out of line for this bike? I'm a little busy to edify myself today, but I'd guess that they're overpriced by about $500 given the aluminum frame (assuming that's right too). Maybe you're mad you had to do a little sleuthing because the database information kept the bike out of your search?

Not mad at all, just thought it was funny to describe that bike that way. I wasn't looking for anything, it just caught my eye and seemed odd. It helps to be a knowledgeable seller as well as buyer, it is their bike after all. I thought this was the "Wacky" thread; not trying to be too serious here. Next time I'll post the cantilever toaster!

It is a bit farfetched that someone would buy a Colnago and not know the frame material, brake types, and model of bike.

If you're down sayin' that an LBS put them on that bike, never go there again*...Lighten up dude.

*I think the bike is too big for the current owner. Or maybe they're part of a circus act, I can see why they might be drawn to Colnagos in general...

I bet this thing was not cheap when it was new back in 1995. Bike design technology moves on.

The bar suspension and spring stem (!!) make me think this would not be so great for downhill, unless that spring rate is effectively high enough to not matter much. I wonder what it's like to downhill on a bike where you're separated from the frame by jello.

Here's another

I had a Softride for several years and it was a great bike off road (for me). Had no trouble keeping up with my pals on socal trails. Unfortunately someone offered me too much for it and it's gone. Wouldn't get one now since the beam would need to be replaced eventually and doubt they're available.

Danger, Danger, Danger Will Robinson...I would worry about something getting caught in those springs.

That story's kind of sad. Would we be crazy to finish the build and return it? It only needs 60% of the value of a bike in parts...
