Still puzzling over smart trainers and here’s another issue: The bike I’m going to use is 10 speed and my wife’s bike is 11. I expect to be the > 75% user. Is a wheel off trainer worth the hassle of changing cassettes? I realize no one can answer this for me, but you can call me an idiot, which is sometimes exactly what one needs to hear.

I could put my soulless plastic bike on it, but I want it ready to go when the temp is rideable.

I was just funnin’ witch you but direct drive trainers with multiple bikes can cause a few issues. I use 4 different machines on my Kickr and none of the cassettes were offset the same. I dug out a bunch of hub cassette spacers and finally got all of the cassettes offset the same so now it only takes a few seconds to switch bikes with no gear adjustments. Btw, the cassette that came with my Kickr was crap and skipped gears no matter what. I replaced it with an Ultegra cassette and it works fine.

Im not at all familiar with wheel off smart trainers either, but can you adjust your rear derailleur so that it only shifts within sprockets 2 through 11?

She's going to be using it for simulated rides, correct? What about you? Rides or just intervals? I don't have a smart trainer, so there's a good chance I'm wrong, but I don't think that you need to shift if you're doing intervals in ERG mode - the trainer takes care of the resistance regardless of wheel/cassette speed.

I actually rode a bike today! Like I totally remembered how, and only fell off once!
For the last few months I've been dieting, I invented the best diet ever, that I've christened The Tequila Diet(tm), on which I'm down 30 pounds in just a few months already. Part of that has been avoiding hard cardio that makes me hungry... but I said screw it and hit the trails today on the MTB. It's my bday, I'm headed to a tequila joint, and I needed some extra calories! I guess my plan is to get down to 200 (year's end if I'm lucky), and then hit the bike and just try to maintain weight. If I keep losing more, then bonus.
