Motobecane Cafe Premio from bikedirect, anyone has experience?

Trying to get a hybrid bike, don't want to spend a ton but also don't want to do any major upgrade later on.

Will ride mostly on paved or limestone road, nothing serious but might go ~30 miles/day occasionally.

Bikedirect has the "Motobecane Cafe Premio" bike onsale for $999, (sorry it seems that I was not allowed to post links here) I googled but could not find any other result about this bike,

I was wondering if folks here have had some experience? I am 6.2, 170lbs, used to ride a hybrid on katy trail ~30miles almost daily for about 6 months.

Or maybe another other suggestions for ~800 budget?

You can get better bikes for the money, in my humble opinion. The first on my list would be a Jamis Coda. These are high quality steel frames (like that BD Motobecane) available in a variety of trim levels. The "compare to" price on BD is out of line -- that Motobecane is similar to a $1000 Surly Cross-Check. And the top-of-the-line Jamis Coda Elite, with Reynolds 520 steel tubing and a carbon fork, has a lower MSRP. Even the next-step-down Jamis Coda Comp has the Reynolds 520 frame and carbon fork -- for $789.

Plus -- one huge benefit of a bike shop bike is you can test ride it before you buy. With online bike shopping, you don't know how that bike will fit you or even if you will like how it rides. And they'll take a return -- but you have to pay to ship it back, so there's some financial risk involved.

A search for jamis coda on this forum returned so many results, folks seem to like it! I will be heading to their store this morning,

And does jamis coda have similar line for women? I am thinking to get one for my wife as well.

Big thanks!

Right, I was told they don't carry Coda line because they only sell 5 or 6 a year. they have fiji and few other brands.

I ended up going to another store, the are not listed on Jamis but do carry some jamis bikes, and bought a coda comp for my wife and ordered a coda comp for me, waiting for mine to come now, it probably takes a week or so to have it, I am quite happy though.

Thanks again.

So how do you like it, at least the one for your wife? Do you feel the ride is compliant with the steel frame and carbon fork?
