First ride (in the rain) on my new bike. Now I have a Flat bar bike (Cannondale Quick Carbon 1) and this when I feel more aggressive! Love the handling of this beauty.

Hopped on the Roubaix yesterday for a wind beating down 102 miles. ONLY had 128' elevation (SW FL) but felt even more tired than my Six Gap rides. I'm thinking that it's my GEEZER status now that makes things harder.

Wow you guys have some gorgeous mounts and some beautiful locales. I just got back from a brisk late afternoon/evening ride around town. Feels so good now that the weather has broken. Can't stand the heat even though I'm a skinny middle aged guy in shorts. Love the fall!

It took a while, including a trip to a bike co-op in another city (since mine doesn't have one) to get the bottom bracket out, but it's rideable now. I transferred the pedals and more importantly pedal extenders from my old bike today, so it's officially my new bike. Right now I have the riser bars that came with it flipped forward to give me enough reach; new bars and stem are next.

I've been riding the old broken bike all along, but gently and not very far, meaning my conditioning has been eroding from beneath, as I discovered when I went out riding on the 100-degree third day of October. It's been so strange riding past deep piles of brown leaves in this heat. Well - back to it then.

And .. just got rained out. I thought I had until the morning. With a snap of the fingers, it's going to be autumn.

I did ride today. Another rainy day in Minneapolis/St. Paul. But I wanted to hit 1,000 miles since July 10th, when I started riding again. 1006 miles since July 10th. 424.5 on the REI bike, 506.8 on the Cannondale and 74.8 on the Bianchi. The REI was returned to the store. I am 6' tall and the salesman sized me in a bike designed for someone 5'6" to 5'9" tall. Try as I might, it never felt right. REI did the right thing and fully refunded my money. A stand-up company. If I had bought the Bianchi first, that would be my only bike, it is incredible. 11-1/2 miles each and every day. Since I can't ride everyday, most days I ride, I average 20 plus miles.

Got my 60 mile loop done and just as I pulled into the driveway at the end of the ride the rain sprinkles started. It was a good ride!

After last year when I only logged 614 miles because of a bladder stone removal and other factors I was pleased to reach the 1000 mile mark. Not as much as I have done in prior years since my retirement but satisfying nonetheless. If we have decent weather for a while before winter sets in I can see adding another couple 100 miles to it. Feel very fortunate to still enjoy riding at 84.

23+ miles, sunny to partly cloudy, 65 degrees. I felt pretty cold despite 3 layers of jersey and shorts plus tights. Feeling cold at 65 degrees is not something I ever expected.

Just back from the first real ride on the new bike. 12 miles as a good shakedown, although -- who knew -- 12 miles on 38s don't mean as much as 12 miles on 54s. Which is the point of the new bike, letting me get downtown and back from out in the hinterlands without crawling home.

30 miles in the morning with a wind chill of 32° at 16-18mph. Was dressed for the dropped temps in layers and stayed toasty warm. Thought I'd peel off layers as the day warmed up, but ended the ride with all the layers intact.

Was only disappointed in the unwavering dedication of the trees enroute to remain as green as possible. Not even a hunt of color change. Would have notched up the ride description from great to awesome had there been some gold and orange and red leaves along the way.

I was not able to do my usual early morning 17 miles today. As you may have seen, the Santa Anna's are blowing in Southern California which often means fires. The fires are nowhere near where we live but the wind blows the smoke right in our direction. It did not seem a good idea to ride my bike when there is ash in the air.

Yesterday, the first cool/cold day of the year, 40s and 50s all day. I'm finishing the first week on the new bike, and I'd guess the effort is about 60-75% of the old bike for the same rides. I did some hill work one way, crossed the valley and did some hill work on the other side, then a big sunny blue sky loop.

I also did a very good thing. On the return I have to do a U-turn across a four-lane divided highway to get lined up for home. At the U-turn, there's a low spot that's usually full of water. Yesterday it was dry but there was a big bank of grit and sand left over. I usually make the turn sharply, because it's fun, to time it with traffic, and to keep my momentum as I turn from downhill to up. I saw the debris at the last second and straightened out my turn. I still skidded, but not as bad as it would've been.

Crappy weather in Minnesota this weekend. First sign of no rain or snow I ventured out and only got about 3 miles out before getting pelted with snow. The skies are clearing so out went the bike again and this time for a little over 10 miles before I had to be home for dinner. Of course the sun will shine with the weekend closing...

22 miles on the C&O canal (round trip) from Great Falls National Park into DC and back. A beautiful, well groomed and gently flat section of trail that was like rush hour traffic adjacent to Great Falls with a billion walkers, a million (well behaved and almost every breed imaginable) dogs on leashes, and quite a few cyclists all casually enjoying the views via the very dusty trail. 3 miles out from Great Falls the trail opened up with few people and lovely riding with peaceful views of the Potomac and much exposed river rocks normally submerged. Got into the National Park with my senior pass, and hubby stayed at the visitor center, enjoying the museum and the food vendor before relaxing with his Kindle awaiting my return. Really glad for the bike's carbon belt as the dust was super bad from lack of rain. The falls are also suffering, in some cases side branches of the river are down to stagnant pools or mere trickles of water. I may have to return after the rains plump up the falls to more scenic levels.

Yesterday (Saturday) rode 24 miles on long wheelbase 'bent over to Decatur Township and down into Morgan County. Climbed Fox Hill, which is the hill closest to home that always gets me breathing hard.
Today rode 14 miles with spouse on her Trek e-assist bike and me on short wheelbase 'bent. She led the way most of the time and directed us up a variety of short but steepish hills close to home. Trying to get ready for Hilly Hundred in two weeks. She confessed after the ride that she had been in Sport, the 3rd (of 4) assist range but thought she was in Tour, the 2nd range. Made for a better workout for me!
