Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Overnighter to Jacksonville tomorrow. Upper 70s and Sunny. We're finally getting some much needed rain here today.

I am afraid the hard drive is not working. The computer is only 8 years old. They don’t make them like they used to!

That happened to my iMac. Hard drive wore out. It was around the same age. Fortunately, my GF at the time worked with a guy who was a real genius. He opened up the thing, extracted the hard drive and was able to save all my photos with the help of software you could license for about $75. That's a fraction of what a data recovery service would likely have charged. When he attached the drive to some diagnostic tool he said it was the most messed up drive he had ever seen.

I think most of our photos etc. are on external storage and/or the cloud. Still hope there is a way to get this fixed but I am guessing we will go computer shopping this weekend.

What’s the best bang for your buck desktop PC?

Yeah. Or is it bulletproof??

In any case, the current one has served us really well for 8ish years, is an HP. Google says HP is the best budget PC for 2019 so leaning that way. Looks like you can get a CAAD 105 level PC for about $500 which won't break the bank. I would love an iMac but that's more than twice as much. That's Ultegra/Dura-Ace level.

I was lucky, because I fell into some money from a fellow from Nigeria, and I'll use that money to pay off my tax debt from that agent that called, and basically told me the same thing. When I pressed one, he said my house was going to get repo'd, so I asked him if I could use a bank cheque' from Nigeria to cover my outstanding debt. He said he preferred cash, so I then instructed him I would please send my agent, and his would be most happy to have the cheque made out for $637.03 over the prices of my housing burden, and would the be OK? My agent has been instructed to meet you for person at the coffee shop of your choice......

I'm waiting for a call back from the guy from Nigeria, so I can get this all handled.

Hey @MoAlpha, I had an interesting case yesterday. Patient was very upset that he was losing his mind. Story was classic for episode of Transient Global Amnesia. I was able to talk him off the ledge.

That’s a new one. Some machine left a message on my voicemail this morning, warning me to call back before they had an arrest warrant issued, blah, blah, woof, woof, and ended, “Have a nice day.”

Everyone’s favorite diagnosis to make. Good for you for sparing them an encounter with a neurologist and an MRI! Was there a thermal shock involved?

No thermal shock or other cause.

My favorite “easy” diagnosis is subconjunctival hemorrhage. It’s common and harmless.

That’s a great one too and it looks so horrible!

Another satisfying one is a radial nerve palsy with a wrist drop, which prevents making a fist and mimics hand weakness unless the wrist is supported. I once “cured” a stroke diagnosed by a community neurologist in the mother in-law of a serving Vice President by making that diagnosis in about 15 seconds, and was a minor hero for a morning. There is more to the story, which I would share over a pot of good tea some day.
