I don't think you can put much creedence in whether the seat stay cap was painted or not. I have 7 Motobecanes (2 Grand Jubiles including a mixte, 3 Grand Records and 2 Le Champions) dating from '72 to '75 (or maybe '76) and there is no consistency regarding the seat stay cap. Some are painted, some are not. Motobecane kinda did their own thing and didn't keep good build records from one year to the next. IMHO they sure built better bikes than any other production bike coming out of France during that time. Give your Moto plenty of love!

Seven Motobecanes?! Then my three Motobecanes is not so excessive after all. Nor my mere seven French bikes. I feel so much better now.

Well spotted. I know that feeling, having picked up a heavily-camoflaged late-60s PX10 frame off Ebay:

How it was advertised - for 20 euros...

It's now stripped, refinished and rideable again, with the same SLJs. Just waiting for an AVA spearpoint stem to arrive and some new tubulars it'll be done.

How it looks now.

Just added to my collection, a fine French example - ex RMO team bike, used by Dante Rezze in the `92 tour, Gitane RMO with full mavic groupset and wheelset, liking the pearl/black combo...

Thanks, Dan.

Recently bought this, posted it the main site asking if anyone knows what it is. Definitely French as tubing , stem, BB are all French. I'm guessing by the Dura Ace dates that it was built up in 1978. Nice bike what ever it is, picks up very quickly and rides very well.

Last of the Merciers

Found this lovely M a week or two ago. From the date code on the crank probably an 84 or 85 model - at the tail end of Mercier's storied life. But what model? Who knows? But it is nothing too spectacular, with Columbus Aelle (at least it's not tretubi) and Campy Triomphe group. The 27x1-1/4 Mavic Mod. 3's are drilled for Schrader valves. It rides super! At 22" it's an inch shy of my preferred size. Chrome and paint are pretty nice. Decals are *really* bad. I think I will remove what's left of "Prix de Cannes" from the top tube. Or perhaps remove all. There are replacements available for the down tube decal. Regrettably, the RD cable stop braze on is broken. I think I will just use a band-on stop. Yes, I do plan to fix the brake cable routing. What do you think? Does it deserve a spot next to my Mercier 300?

A fabulous 128 pages - one of the best threads & a brilliant read. I once had a mid 70s Peugeot PE 41 (sadly no photos) and that's the bike I always regret giving away.

Latest iteration of this frame. Well not really, I already switched tires. LOL. Previously had Campag Record 8 speed. Now a hodgepodge of Shimano 9 speed and a Sunfire crank.

An MBK super record made with 753. Wonder if it was contracted out to another builder because of the lugs and other than the stickers doesn't appear to have any MBK markings.

Miosotti

I know it looks a bit like a Colnago, but this appears to have been made by Mario Miosotti. He made many frames over his long career, but almost none had his name on them. Nearly all were sold under other brands including Wolhauser. This frame turned up near Givors, which provides some support to the possibility that it may have been built by Miosotti. It had been left in a garage by the now-deceased owner, and was eventually sold years later by the owner's son-in-law. Unfortunately, he knew nothing of the history.
