I just received one of these tail lights that I ordered from DealExtreme about about a month back. It looked just like the Planet Bike Superflash and I was curious. Well, after comparing it to the PB item I already had, I'm certain that it is the PB superflash without the brand name. The only detail differences I could see are so minor that they are probably just changes from one model year to the next. Even the mount bracket and clip are identical. Both lights are equally blinding (as my daughter found out when she turned them both on pointing in her face). If this is a knockoff, its the closest darn knockoff I've ever seen. Can't argue with $5 for a light that normally sells for close to $30. I'm ordering a few more while they have them.

Wow, great deal! I was looking for a new rear light also, mine must have bounced off on a trail somewhere. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm trying to order a few and I don't trust the site with the way it handles Paypal. Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but Paypal has never asked me for my credit card number before. The whole point of Paypal is that you don't have to enter it each time for security purposes. Too many phishing sites out there.

I don't believe the OP was comparing it to the Hotshot. I happen to have several of these $5 lights (I give them away), as well as a PB Superflash, a PDW Radbot 1000, and a Cygolite Hotshot. The $5 light is the dimmest (but still pretty good), followed by the Superflash, the Radbot, and the Hotshot. There is a noticeable jump in brightness between each.

I finally got the order through with Paypal without inputting my credit card #. I guess for $10 I'll see how they are and compare them to my PB Superflash.

It does seem like lights get better and cheaper every time I look at them.

There's no such thing as a 3.0W red LED (PH54 excepted, but its about as practical on a bike as a color-filtered HID). The brightest LED produced by CREE is the XP-E, which has a maximum rated power equivalent to 1.6W. Sorry, Hotshot, you're my favorite battery-powered taillight ever and brighter than any other off-the-shelf rear light, but there's no way your housing or battery could actually handle an over-driven XP-E. Based on my bench-top tests of other XP-E lights, the Hotshot is probably under-driven to only about 1W in fact, but makes up for it with its wicked-tight optic.

Actually the most effective way to use those is to point them at the ground. They will paint the ground red for a distance of 25 feet behind the bike without forcing anyone to look directly at a bright light. And of course they can always becturned off - unless you happen to be bringong up the rear.

Mine still aren't here. 12 days now. I know that it can take a while from HK. I also ordered a Cree XM-L U2 light from Keygos a few days later and I got that today.

I have found with a number of my tail lights, that the clip is not always a tight fit and some lights have a tendency to bounce off. The light strap on my seat pack has a bit of electrical tape wrapped around it to make it thicker and a tighter fit.

I gave my PB clone to a young lady that showed up recently for a night ride without lights and she clipped it to the pocket on her backpack. On the second ride she lost it somewhere on the route. When my next order arrives, I'll mount the clip to the frame of her bike. If she hasn't bought another blinky on her own by then.

this is the one I bought off ebay.. offered 5.00 and was accepted.. Been using for a couple months now and works great.. I just clip mine on my seatpack and no issues with it falling off.. I prefer buying off ebay rather than DE, it seems I get items much faster - usually 7 to 10 days is the norm to the west coast. If it does not arrive I have buyer protection to get my money back instead of begging DE for a refund.

Still no lights. 16 days now. How long do these usually take? My other light took 7 days from HK.

I buy a lot from HK / china sellers and usually 7-10 days is the norm. If you ordered from deal extreme it can be much longer.
