Vintage Richard Sachs Touring Bike - $1600 (Greenfield)

1979 Build, serial # 3965 – the 396th Richard Sachs bike built

I’m the second owner but believe the bike still has original paint.

Original Campy headset, bottom Bracket and seatpost
Mafac Brakes
Updated Campy drivetrain
56 cm seat tube
56 cm top tube
145 cm headtube
81.5 cm standover

Would make for an awesome L’Eroica build.

Or $1,200 for just the frame, fork, headset, bottom bracket, saddle, seatpost and Mafac Brakes.

Hand built Steel frame - $900 (Rehoboth, Ma)

This is a 57cm handbuilt steel frame road racing bicycle. Frame builder is Custom A cycles from Providence RI. It is a lugged frame using Columbus Foco tubing (very light) and Richard Sachs lugs(see photos) The frame with wheels weighs just over 20 pounds. The components are a mix of Campy C-Record and Chorus. The geometry is classic road race: a beautiful balance between responsiveness and stability. The bike was occasionally raced for several years but never crashed. The frame was rust treated when it was first put together in 2004 and shows almost no rust now. The steerer tube is uncut to allow for max height adjustments. For those who are wondering about fit: I'm a little under 5'10" and weigh 155 with long arms and inseam . I'm stretched out with the 12.5 stem but it could go to 13 maybe a bit more without compromising the response. The recommended max weight probably shouldn't be more than 180-185 based on my conversations with the builder when we put it together. So the range could run 5'9 to 6' and up to 180 pounds. The bike is incredibly responsive and stable; I've changed jackets and vests more than a few times no hands as well as taken some sweeping downhills the same way. It almost steers itself. It is more of a climber's bike than a crit beast, and has that classic sweet steel feel. It has stayed in the attic for the past five years, so it really hasn't seen a great deal of wear and tear. I've tried to note some of the nicks in the photos. They have been touched up, but nothing has reached beyond the outer coat. Some additional specs:

Top tube: 57cm Seat tube:57 cm

Chainstay: 42cm Headset: Chorus

Crankset/BB: C-Record 53/39 172.5

Front derailleur: C-Record Rear Derailleur: Chorus 12-23

12.5 cm ITM stem

Wheelset: Cane Creek The rear has titanium spokes

The rest is a mix of aftermarket parts.

Yoy gotta have a little imagination. That might very well be a diamond in the rough. For $50 or so, a Miyata 710 is worth a closer look.

Would this be fun? Or would I be compelled, as usual, to spend $$ on gearing for the hills, brakes, etc?

$200 near Santa Cruz

It's no fun if you can't pedal up hill or stop going down hill.

Update - this is one of the oddball small-frame (44-48cm) models, apparently a 44cm. These models had a 24-inch front wheel, of course a shorter fork, and little to no top tube incline (think - Georgena Terry). I have no idea how rare that makes this bike, but this is the first/only one I've seent.

Will someone in the area please buy this, and relieve me of the temptation to go out and buy it this week? Why is this not sold yet, anyway?

This line: "back in 1988 Cannondale was at the cutting edge of high end fillet-brazed aluminum touring frames"
is almost deserving of a spot in the Whacky World thread.
Filet brazed aluminum.... I'd like to see that

I'd be tempted by this bike if I were still working in downtown Boston. I miss a lot of things about living in Boston but I have saved myself a boat load of money when it comes to buying cool old bikes. The pickings are slim where I live and that has helped my wallet out for sure.

Vintage Italian Frame/ Bevilacqua - $250 (Arlington)

Vintage Bevilaqua Italian road bike frame and crank. The story of Bevilaqua frames named after the legendary Italian rider of the 1950's is an interesting one. There were a certain amount of bikes and frames made under his name. They were made of Chromalloy Columbus steel. Very light weight and comfortable to ride. The chain stays and seat stays are chrome. The front fork is chrome. The chrome is in beautiful condition with no rust on them.

This frame built into a bike will be a light, nimble bike, and a joy to ride.

This frame is a 58cm. It was brought over from Italy by Adi's Bike Shop in West Roxbury. It is in nice condition. The paint has a few, but not a lot of blemishes in so it is not "perfect" but it is a rare and lovely frame to ride - and beautiful to look at!

The pics are a little out of focus. We will add some clearer ones in a few hours.

We have other interesting and nice bikes for sale. There is no junk.
