Bike Fenders - yay or nay?

Fenders? I'm a fan!
I bought a bike a few years ago with bullet-proof OEM steel fenders - and this gives me a much greater range of weather in which to ride - so I do.
I also installed Velo Orange fenders on a vintage road bike that I rebuilt - for the same reason. The VO fenders are aluminum, substantial - and come with all sorts of hardware to help with fitting to your bike which usually involves a couple hours of trial and error. There are many previous fender-fitting posts on BF and the web - read before you buy.
I agree with others that the quick-release attachment tabs are a good idea re: safety.

Lessee. You live in Vancouver? Then you will want those fenders, unless you enjoy getting even wetter and dirtier when you ride.

I don't particularly like the way the fenders look, but it was necessary because I pull a bike trailer with my dog. Without the fender, the tires were slinging sand and rock into his face so I opted for the fenders.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I decided against the fenders right now just because my local bike shops don't really offer the kind I'm looking for. I don't really want mud-flap type fenders and they don't have ones wide enough for my liking. So far it hasn't been an issue but I appreciate all the replies and I know what I'm looking for. Once rain season comes around this fall I'll be purchasing them+
