Serial number CS304982.
Hubs and drive train are Golden Arrow.
Wheels/tires are 27x1-1/4"
brakes are Dia-Compe
Saddle, seatpost, bars, stem I'm sure have all been changed.
It has a kickstand mounting plate! Weighs nearly 25lbs. Rides nicely.
Seatpost diameter = 26.4mm.
Bianchi Sport SS. Not 1983-ish but definitely 1983, manufactured by Bianchi's Japanese contractor. Definitely replacement decals. Canadian market Bianchi did not have a unique serial number format. Once you've lost the OEM decals you can't be 100% positive but the Japanese built, Canadian market models during this era typically had fully chromed forks, so this likely isn't a Canadian market model.

Thank you Bianchigirll and T-Mar. The fork crown is different than pics I find on the net for Sport SS model. A replacement, I wonder?

1982 Sport SS with that crown have surfaced, so it's likely OEM.

Hi-

My daughter recently bought a used Bianchi Volpe, and I'd love some help tracking down the age. Below is a pic (hope this works...). It has Shimano Tiagra Flightdeck brifters, 9 sp Tiagra on the rear, 3 speed Sora up front. Avid 15C cantis. Has a chrome fork, and the front wheel is definitely a replacement. Serial number from the bottom bracket would appear to me to be "HOHO 5007" so I'm guessing it was a Christmas bike... :-)

Any other pics? I can't seem to track it down in Bikepedia nor any of my catalogs. I am pretty sure that fork is not original and a mismatched front wheel would support it. Do the tires match?

No, the tires don't match either. Here's one more photo:

For some reason, my flickr uploadr is ignoring the photos from today, otherwise I'd post a flickr album with a bunch of shots.

Tiagra and Sora, if OEM, would place it no older than the 2000 model year. The serial number may indicate a Hodaka built frame from August 2000. That's late enough in the year to be a 2001 model. The 2001 specs show Tiagra with a Deore rear derailleur and Avid brakes. So, a 2001, with some changes is a definite possibilty. To this end, I'd be checking the two letter date codes found the Shimano components. The format, location and cypher of the Shimano date codes can be found here; Date of Manufacture of Bicycle Components can be used to date a bike: component dating . Since there is a possibility that some of the components may have been changed, you should check as many as possible. As an example, attached is a picture of the back of a Shimano Altus rear derailleur showing a date code of' 'IJ '(i.e. 2010, October). Please post what you find.

The components are first generation Tiagra (4400). 2nd generationTiagra (4500 series) was introduced for 2007, so it should be 2000-2006.

The 2000 seems to match best the set of components her bike has, according to BikePedia.

31078 leads to ?

I recently bought this vintage Bianchi racing bike which is still in quite a good state and I'm planning to participate in Eroica cycling rides with it, so I would like to know more about it. I would like to know what model it is and what building year.

If possible, i would also like to know whether all the original parts are still there. Right now, for better recognition, it has:

- serial number indented: 31078

- colour: orange

- gears: Campagnolo Nuovo Record, 5x2 gears

- chain wheel: Sakae

- chainwheels 42 and 52 teeth in the front, 13 to 21 teeth in the back

- shifters: Shimano

- tires: Bis eWiva, sticker with 'tubi Bianchi calibrati 1-20'

- seat post: brev Italy ttt

- saddle: Selle Italia, nitrox, genuine gel, MN manganese

- brakes: dia compe g

- brake handles: Weinmann

- wheels: 36 spokes, 'Mega Italy'

- handle bar: Cinelli Milano, 44cm width

- pedals: Christophe, Record leather

- pedal bars: Ofmega

It has a sticker that it comes from ‘Bram V Sluijs’ bicycle shop in Vlissingen, and the sticker 'campione del mondo 1973-74'.

I hope someone can help me date my allready beloved Bianchi racing bike ?

Divierl, welcome to the forums. What you have is a Bianchi Rekord 74, which was the bottom of the line racing model with a hi-tensile steel frame. It should be circa 1974-1977. Unfortunately, the serial number as reported is incomplete, so it cannot be narrowed down further.

The picture is poor but based on your description there is little, if any original equipment. The Shimano shift levers, SR crankset and Dia-Compe brakes are incorrect and the Nuovo Record derailleurs are an upgrade over the original Campagnolo derailleurs. The post and saddle are too modern. The current wheels appear to be wired-on style, as opposed to the correct tubular style.

Given the level of the bicycle, I'm not sure it warrants seeking out the correct, original parts. It will likely be quite expensive take a long time and far exceed the value of the bicycle. I'd probably just enjoy it in its current state.

80s Nuova Alloro

Columbus Matrix tubing
Campagnolo Nuovo Record rear derailleur ("Pat. 11" -> 1985)
Campagnolo front derailleur and shifters
Gipiemme cranks, pedals, dropouts, hubs, seat post
Modolo Flash brakes
Cinelli stem and ITM handlebar
Ambrosio 19 Extra Super élite rims
Bianchi-branded Selle Italia saddle

More pics

The serial number is I*6 1796. So a 1986 Nuova Alloro?

There is little (but some) match with a Nuova Alloro in the 1987 catalog on velobase. No luck on the other catalog sites I found online. If it's showing up in any '86 catalogs you might have at home, I'd love to get a pic or scan. The bike has a sticker from a MA bike shop, so I would assume it's a U.S. market model.

Huge thanks to @T-Mar and @Bianchigirll for patiently answering questions and responding to research requests. It's been fun reading through years of this thread!

in the US market the '87 Nuovo Alloro was a CampI Victory bike. The Matrix sticker doesn't jive but otherwise it looks like an '86. The '86 Nuovo Alloro would be a Formula II frame but maybe this a Canadian model?

Interesting! Do the components pretty much match what you have listed for 1986?

There are a couple other bikes with matrix tubing - both turquoise - that are believed to be '86 Nuova Alloros. Here...

Hello,

I posted this over here before I realized that this thread existed... I don't have a serial number or any decent pictures, closest thing to this colour I could find online was this (an expired Kijiji ad, so no new information):

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

-----------------------------------

I’m looking to pick this bike up for a friend from a seller online. Trying to place the year and model, but no real information was given. It’s posted as a “Vintage Bianchi Racing Bike” and it looks like it’s out of the ‘80s, but I’m not a Bianchi connoisseur so that’s about all I’ve got. Was hoping to get a ballpark value for it so I know I’m not getting ripped off.

Here are are the (low quality) pics I have to work with:

Non-drive side...

Axiom seat post (after-market?)

Sakae Road Champion drop bars (front left)

Sakae Road Champion drop bars (front right)

SR stem (right side stamp)

Suntour shifters

Suntour Sprint 9000 rear derailleur

Shimano front brake (maybe 105?)

Suntour ARX front derailleur
Sugino VT crankset

If anyone can help it would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Also for sale in Canada, so maybe a 1984/1985 Bici II?

Everything is pointing to a mid-1980s, upper entry level, Japanese manufactured model. Ignoring the replacement Axiom post and Sprint rear derailleur, the ARx shift system dates it 1982-1986, while what appears to be Z-series calipers place it no older than 1984. These, in conjunction with the crankset are consistent with a 1984 Bianchi Bici II. I'm not sure if the fork is chromed or not but chromed forks are typical of the Canadian market models of the era. However, it does not appear to have the Piaggio decal used on all 1980-1984 models. Consequently, I suspect it may be a 1985 version, possibly 1986. However, we'd need the serial number to be sure. It would also be informative to have a good picture of the tubing decal.

Here it is! Actually in pretty decent shape. All it really needs are pedals, a spoke, and a good clean. Otherwise, all we'll be adding are some aesthetic updates.

Drive side:
Down tube decals are a bit different from the other similar bikes I have come across, but they do match this one: https://www.pinkbike.com/photo/9362126/ So I'm thinking it is also a 1985.

Serial number:
BS581982

Seat tube sticker #1 :
Hi-Mn
High manganese steel
P.G.
OJI original frame tubes

Seat tube sticker #2:
Centennial Cycle and Sports
Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada
(Looks like they moved to Mississauga and may not exist anymore)

Drivetrain:
Suntour ARX front derailleur
Suntour Sprint 9000 rear derailleur
Sugino VT crankset

Suntour ARX front derailleur
Sugino VT crankset

Suntour Sprint 9000 rear derailleur

Front

Shield
Shimano brakeset

Ambrosio wheelset

Hopefully this helps narrow down the year. Please let me know!

Excited to bring this back to its former glory!

Sean, this is definitely a 1985 model, as the serial number indicates February 1985. That explains the missing Piaggio decal. The brakes are Shimano Z-series. It's now clear that the fork is chromed, so it is Canadian market. Tubing and components, except for the previously mentioned rear derailleur and seat post, are the same as for the 1984 Bianchi Bici II. So, you've got yourself a 1985 Bianchi Bici II. Enjoy!

Hi all! Last year I got a beautiful Bianchi road bike which I believe it is from the 90s. It is definitely Italian as it has the old sticker of the Italian shop that sold it (Cicli Asteggiano, Mondovì).

The question is ... which model is that?

Pics: can't post as I don't have at least 10 posts!

Specs:
S/N: F19984 (located under the BB)
Frame: Columbus Cromor double butted with chromed fork
Groupset: Full Shimano 105 14 speed (1055 champagne series, sometimes called 105SC)
Headset: Shimano
Handlebars: Cinelli Campione Del Mondo
Stem: Cinelli
Seatpost: VO Grand Cru
Rims: Nisi Contender 700C with Shimano 1055 hubs
Pedals: Shimano PD-1056
Saddle: Brooks B17
Brakes: Shimano BR-1055 and BL-1055 brake levers
Bottle cages: Elite

Pedals, saddle and bottle cages were swapped after I bought the bike.

It is very similar to the Bianchi Vento 504 but as far as I know the Vento series was not sold in Italy and didn't have the Bianchi signature sticker on the top tube.

Could you help me with that?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forums. Being an Italian market model complicates the identification for most members, who are Canada or USA based. However, the serial number indicates 1991. This fits nicely with Shimano 105SC which was introduced for the 1990 and model year and updated to 8 speed for the 1993 model year. I wouldn't expect a VO post on an Italian market model and strongly suspect it is non-OEM.
