Good group ride today. From the start, it was slated to be an easier pace, so I felt comfortable bringing the Haanjo (Domane/Assaults still out of commission). It was pretty funny - one of the guys shows up, looks at the bike, shakes his head and says, "That just fills me with dread. Seeing the fat tires and the rack and knowing that I'm still going to be slower."

Ideal Protein. It’s combined carb and calorie restriction. She’s in the weight loss phase now, which is a lot of protein, a ton of vegetables, a little olive oil, water, and salt, with Ca, Mg, and Omega 3 supplementation. Crazy effective and she’s feeling good. It’s made my cooking job easier because everything is easy to prepare, and hard because it’s difficult to introduce much novelty.
The most interesting effect is that her osteoarthritis, which had been going on for years and getting bad in multiple joints, improved within days and before she experienced any significant weight loss. Her mom had the same thing, took cox2 inhibitors for years, and died in her 70s in CHF, presumably from small vessel disease. Wife won’t even take NSAIDS unless things are really bad and is pretty serious about not repeating that scenario.
Needless to say, I’m on board.

I ended up riding the Allez today. I need an FD cable to finish the Crux.
Still technically a mixed road ride. We did 8 miles of fine gravel surface along the Erie Canal. There was even an epic (3 or 4 inches) drop at a bridge transition.

I used to bake bread all the time, but have given up anything processed except, like, Wasa rye crackers and high protein pasta.

Haven’t had any Droste for some time, but sounds good! Since my wife started her radical diet, all the highly palatable goodies in the house have fallen to me, including quite a cache of chocolate. All the booze too.
Shes’s worried (with some justification) that I’m going to lose weight with the change in our dinners, so I now have to make a show of shoveling in carbs, taking food to work, etc. She also wants me to weigh in once a week, as she does.

Animal and soy only, until the maintenance phase, when legumes, nuts, etc. are reintroduced. Most plant sources come with too much carb. This is the most difficult part for me and I hope it's over by slow-cooker season. I love my beans and don't have the gumption to do much cooking just for myself.

Someone you know and get along with well. My first ever self-contained trip was an organized tour of 13, including the leader. Three months on the road. As much as I liked most of the people in the group, there were a few I could have done without, including our original leader, who we "voted off the island," and a racist alcoholic. After the tour ended, I rode home from Bar Harbor, ME to Philly by myself. Got to experience the solo side of things and liked it. During the following year I took two more solo trips of about 7 weeks each, including one in Andalucia, Spain. It's not like you don't interact with people along the way. In fact, I think people tend to approach the solo rider more often because we must seem like sad sacks who must need of things. I even had a woman once give me nearly half a pie while I was camping in CT.

I want to live in Southern Spain where I could get my nutrient needs met from Marcona almonds, Pajarero figs, olives, olive oil, and veggies.
