1952 Columbia Classic Bicycle still new in box

I was clearing out the garage of a very old friend and found this tucked away. New in the box never opened.
Anyone know anything about these?
I have pictures however they will not let me post them on here.

I have to think this is extremely rare to have something like this in unopened box still.

How do you know it's from 1952? Does it say "1952 Columbia" and the word "Classic" somewhere on the box? If so, that'd indicate one of the '90s reproductions. These things were not "classic" when they were new; they were just another bicycle.

Also has the numbers 2205. Maybe it's not original I don't know, but it is new.

Either way, it's almost certainly a cool classically styled cruiser. When you get to ten posts do share some photos of what you can regarding it! Do you plan to (or have you already) removed the contents from the box to check them out?

Keep posting here until you have 10 posts. You'll be able to post pictures then.

I don't remember what my box looked like, but I bought one of the 1987 5-Star reissues ("used" from a private party, but still in the box) back in the late 80's or very early 90's. I wish the photo had captured the green a bit better, but it's a scan of a Polaroid! So high tech over here.

The image I posted was an RX5 reissue. Maybe the "B" was for "boy's". These were generally considered to have been very high quality reissues. Here's a better photo of one:

When the RX5's were first issued I ordered two directly from the factory. I think I paid about $300.00 each including the shipping. At that time I also owned an original RX5. When I took delivery of the bikes I assembled one and took it for a ride, I thought the bike rode badly and the quality was poor compared to an original which I suppose is a bit of an unfair comparison. I sold both of them as soon as I was able to find buyers for what I had paid, and was happy to get rid of them. About a year after that the bikes started to show up in local Sport Marts at around $200.00. I understand they made 5,000 of the these, and it appears they ended up dumping some of them to Sport marts.

A vintage 1952 dot matrix printer would be worth a lot I bet.

It's a mass produced reproduction that didn't sell well when it was new in the first place. It had to compete with many contemporary beach cruisers, and for most buyers, the period look was not worth the extra cost.

P.S.: We have an appraisal forum for the monetary discussion; this forum is for chat about the bicycles themselves.

Yep, nothing says 1952 like a computerized label with the word "classic" on it and serious frame size terminology (which is still a joke for balloon tire, cantilever frames in the first place).

Sorry wasn't trying to offend the experts on this forum. thought it was a good place to ask questions regarding a subject I didn't know anything about. I'll look into the dot matrix printer, thanks for all the great input.
