No problem with a coaster brake on a cruiser or city bike, in fact I kind of like them for that application, I do at minimum mount a front brake of some sort. My current cruiser is a Schwinn 3 speed coaster, it did not come with a front brake, but I am lacing up a front drum brake/generator hub for it. I had a Schwinn HeavyDuti back in the day, fully loaded with a couple of hundred pounds of newspapers the coaster brake was marginal.
