Huffy bay pointe 3 speed

Huffy bay pointe 3 speed , is this bike any good? How does it compare to the Raleigh's? Our local cl has one for 125 that looks pristine. Worth the cash? Thanks

They're a budget 3 speed. The Raleigh is going to be an all-around better bicycle. $125 is overpriced for the Bay Pointe.

This might be a good bike to strip down to the frame and replace everything with Campagnolo.

I'm not sure, but get the pitchforks! We found a heretic!

jdogg111 Go with the Raleigh. That Huffy, like mine, is sub-par.

I guess you have to use a Sturmey Archer hub if you're going to keep it a three speed, but I say turn the handlebars upside down and make it into a track pursuit bike with derailleurs.

OP, although there are millions of those bikes out there with satisfied owners, your money would be more wisely spent elsewhere if you wish to be a satisfied rider. This thread devolved quickly but I think you'd be happier with any generic English (Raleigh/Hercules/etc.) bike with its Sturmey-Archer 3-speed hub and a better-built frame. Many little things add up to make a bike a better buy, and even the Schwinn 3-speeds (Racer, Collegiate and others) in comparable condition are superior products.

We enjoy ragging on Huffy bikes because they've earned it.

First- *MOST* any Huffy is going to be a very entry level bike- meaning it is made with heavy, thick, soft tubing. The dropouts and fork ends are more than likely going to be crimped on. And any of the parts and hardware are going to be inexpensive and heavy. From it's bones- it's not made to be a quality bike- no matter what you do to it, it's never going to be a "good" bike. If you're looking for a rider and you want a "vintage" 3 speed- look at the Raleighs, the Hercules, the Schwinns...

Second- the reason for the other posts is one of the members is in the process of hanging a lot of beautiful and expensive parts on a Huffy- in sort of a perverse "lipstick on a pig" project.

Third- if you put your location- or even a vague location in your profile- people here LOVE to search out bikes on CL and Marketplace.

Good luck!

For $50 I would have said yes - for $125 I say no.
