I only have pictures of his bikes, but I’m sure someone here can put up a pic of one of Bob Freeman’s storage units.

A friend of mine who lives in Alameda near the SF bay has one of these…https://www.tuffshed.com/products/#/...arden%20Ranch/ . I think his has a 6’x8’ floor area. No issues with humidity or weather and plenty of room for bikes hanging from the walls two high. He even has a workbench, workstand and toolboxes in there.

I'm pretty sure the term "n+1" was originally coined for shoes.

Is actual security of any concern here?

In my case, I have security cameras up all around the perimeter of my house and the ability to secure the building (I realize nothing is 100% secure). It also helps that we live on an island with only one way to escape and it is about 10 miles distant.

Of course, I can imagine a call:
911 Dispatcher: 911, what is your emergency?
Pastor Bob: HELP! I've been robbed!!!
911: Remain calm sir. What was stolen?
Bob: My old bicycles!!!
911: How old were they, and what is their value sir?
Bob: 30, 40, 50, and 80 years old!!!! PRICELESS!!!!
911 Dispatcher to County Police: BOLO on causeway to mainland, for bikes with copious amounts of patina. Suspect must be crazy to steal such junk.

Thats a nice garage for bikes. No need to prevent hoarding.

The originator of this thread is in the San Diego area, so humidity should not be too much of a factor unless he is next to the coast. I think a purchased or home built wooden shed will work.

That is a blessing and a curse. I have a son in San Marcos.

Did OP get anywhere in his decision-making?

Does OP want a full height (walk-in height) enclosure or is it just "bike height".

Does OP have any building skills and tools or is this a "Tuff Shed" purchase?

I am in the same climate as the OP and have no trouble with corrosion inside an un-insulated garage. The roof keeps out the rain. The door keeps out the nightly condensation. Temperature swings are fairly small.

To me, the only question is, BUY or BUILD?

And if construction is done well to begin with, one can incrementally seal and insulate. Then add mini-split or simple dehumidifier. Make sure to size shed for (((N+1)+1)+1)...

I have to agree with sced on this one. I have my bikes in the garage which is under a bed room and shares a wall with the house so you would think it would benefit from the heating during the winter but every spring the metal components show more signs of rust. Bolts, chains, any item not stainless steel I guess, rusts from the moisture creeping in.

This ain't Texas!

No, really, it's not needed. If you want a museum (or mausoleum), well,... that might be different.

Oh well, I've said my piece. Peace!

You’ve come a long way from looking at a single G.J. to owning two nicer bikes and planning to build a shed😊.
