You mean tired old men wanting people off their lawn? I can go on with more hackneyed stuff, but it seems the video dude has an endless supply. Can't they ever come up with something new?

Obviously the only way to ride a bike is how I ride a bike. Everything else is stoopid.

i enjoyed that yes! I am the commute type though and he gets it a bit wrong: it's not interrupting a good bike ride with work, its having some joy to start and endcap your workday. just a flip of mindset and you got it.

He held back on unleashing that gold mine of wicked comedy.
Adventure touring:
* how to go six weeks without showering. And they come into the shop three weeks in.
* they ask too many questions about lightweight camping equipment and freeze-dried food.
* conversations mostly revolve around 18-46 cassettes and freewheels and triples.
* beard grooming and pipe smoking.

Cyclocross:
* nobody stocks any of that stuff. Special order only.
* hose that sucker off, before bringing it into my shop.
* beard grooming and pipe smoking.

So cyclists should be a protected class because in the past they have been discriminated for employment, economically marginalized, and considered an inferior subset of society?

he held back on touring as that is what he likes. I also laughed as he admitted he basically was already a retro-grouch (curmudgeon) but was not yet willing to admit it.

Bottecchia was - possibly/probably assassinated because he stood up against this very thing in the burgeoning fascism of pre-war Italy. we should strive to be more like him - cyclists and supporters of all people do be and thrive.

peace,

Loved the video, it’s very funny!
Funny enough that I forwarded it to an Asian friend. I know he will have a good laugh.

Why can't anyone in this thread correctly spell "gauge"?

I wasn't really thinking about it being a "moral equivalence," whatever that means. And I hope it was clear I wasn't making a legal argument. I save those for court.

Well, maybe not the latter. But let's not be too quick to rule out the former.

My phone swapping can't spell...

Is not a legal thing. If we are talking about X and you bring up how it is ok to address X that way but not Y, you end up in fact establishing a moral equivalency argument as to whether or not that's the case.

Just being a group (people on the left side of the street) means nothing.

But maybe... If you want to include cyclists in your hate crime legislation, you can count on my support.

Sorry, I didn't wholly understand that last sentence, but I gave you the benefit of the doubt.

Dude, I'm a huge advocate for bike safety, especially protection from cars and trucks. I've attended public meetings in my town and made public statements on the issue. I did a charity ride this fall in NYC along 35 miles of bike lanes hosted by Transportation Alternatives, a big bike safety advocacy group there.

But hell, bike safety should not be compared to racism. Never.

We’ll leave it closed, too far off track.
