Should I strip my Bottecchia bike to the frame before listing for sale?

this is not a "what's it worth" or "for sale" question. i actually have had it listed offsite for a while. i've gotten some interest. in doing research before listing, a similar frame only listing had sold for about what i expect for the whole bike. it would be a lot easier to ship, and maybe be a more attractive listing, if i reduced it to essentially the frame. what do you think?

No. The components are not big money parts.
that being said, I would rather buy the f/f only with HS and binder bolt. Of course size and frame tubing would be the right dimension and material.

Maybe, if the wheels are good then offer separate, looks like a close mismatch from here.

I would get that kinky chain lubed and in line, screams neglect.

most of those parts aren't doing you any favors so maybe strip down and see.

This color scheme is pretty specific so a fan will have to see it and need this size.

Pretty cool and I'm a fan but can't take on another.

I think the wheels match, interesting grouping. I think the cranks are original, probably lower level Columbus. I don't think the brake calipers came with that bike. Good bike, race bike replica

in part, my ad reads: 1990 ADR Replica in team colors that won the 1989 Tour de France (with Greg LeMond!). Chromed front forks and Columbus Aelle tubing as well as the Suntour Radius/Campognolo group place this bike in a group of four levels released by Bottecchia. Rare to have the original group intact.

I think strip to frameset (or close too). its a big boy in a cool color- it should have a following but its going to be like.. a handful of people who really want that specific bike. for this handful, they would strip it down anyway.

Crankset is Triomphe. And it's that really tough grey powder coating or whatever they used. Not anodized in the way lye can remove it. I had to use a lot of 80 grit and elbow grease on mine to polish it. But it looks phenomenal now. Surprised so much has rubbed off from the arm in the pic.

I recently bought another really nice Triomphe crankset off eBay for less than $70 shipped. Pre-2020, that would have been closer to $90-$100 with less options out there.

So Triomphe has the curved spiders and Victory has the sharp angular. I always flip them.

And that is the grey “century“ finish, I presume...?

English Triomphe spindle is 114mm. Victory is 109. And Victory has the reverse threaded holes for self extracting crank arm bolts.

If I have my choice to mix and match Triomphe/Victory, I always get the Triomphe crank and Victory rear mech. Don't tell anyone.

That makes sense. Easier to deal with. I actually like the Triomphe pedals more. Have never used the mechs on anything yet though.

How do the 980-990s compare?

I would just include in the listing that you're willing to sell it as a frameset as well, along with the lower price.

Lot more annoying getting someone asking if you'd be willing to sell it as a complete bike after you've just stripped everything vs. the opposite.

Sell it a la carte, the almost frozen chain, the interesting group of components…. Sell it as a frame and fork with headset. Note, tall guys are cheap, but the total value will be higher apart. And as noted much more manageable to ship. But be wary, will take a big box to even ship as a frame, carefully remove the fork as not to damage the aluminum top nut and top race.

IF it were me, the onlything I'd want from that would be the frameset/headset (and maybe the seatpost). Selling just that would ship easier. On the other hand, other people might want the whole bundle.

thx for all the replies. i will continue to run the ad for the complete bike for now. i'll consider the parts greater than the whole idea. just didn't want to run a bunch of separate ads.
