Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

After about the 5-10th post about this subject today Im going to call it....

A shill is an associate of a person selling goods or services or a political group, who pretends no association to the seller/group and assumes the air of an enthusiastic customer. The intention of the shill is, using crowd psychology, to encourage others unaware of the set-up to purchase said goods or services or support the political group's ideological claims. Shills are often employed by confidence artists. The term plant is also used.

Shilling is illegal in many circumstances and in many jurisdictions[1] because of the frequently fraudulent and damaging character of their actions. However, if a shill does not place uninformed parties at a risk of loss, but merely generates "buzz", the shill's actions may be legal. For example, a person planted in an audience to laugh and applaud when desired (see claque), or to participate in on-stage activities as a "random member of the audience", is a type of legal shill.

"Shill" can also be used pejoratively to describe a critic who appears either all-too-eager to heap glowing praise upon mediocre offerings, or who acts as an apologist for glaring flaws. In this sense, they would be an implicit "shill" for the industry at large, possibly because their income is tied to its prosperity.

Rob of Psimet (Sigh Met) seems to have forgotten more about wheel building than most of us will ever know. The Alchemy front hub on my Zipp 404 clincher is the slickest front hub I think I've ever seen. Reminiscent of Chris King or White Industries, but maybe even nicer.

The rear hub (Wireless Powertap SL) is kind of neat too.

I'll tell you what that S2 rides as schweet as it looks. Great bicycle and set up. The D.A. 7900 is just about flawless since I went to the SIS cables and that redesigned 7900 chain.

Very happy with all the gear after 9 months with the bike. At the end of the day that's what matters about gear. If you like it you're cool. If everyone else hates it, so what?

*sigh* met

I don't pay anyone for endorsements. I think people feel obligated because I sell them nice wheels at what they feel is too low of a price. There are worse problems to have.

FWIW - I will chime in here to explain a little of my background for those that don't know...but only because this thread is about me. I don't like to come across as advertising.

I am a 20+ year wrench/avid cyclist. Racer. Long distance, etc. Engineer type. Worked in manufacturing for many years. I have been building wheels for a while for myself and then slowly branched out to building for others. Building for others I have never met before is still a relatively new thing for me (coming up on about 1 year I guess).

PSIMET = Purdue Student In Mechanical Engineering Technology. Thankfully an alum but the handle has stuck over the years.

I was running this as a side business out of the shop I race for (also team manager). Business got too big. I now run an official stand alone business. I am a distributor for White Industries and Alchemy. I am and will be working on some other big names as well (on that note anyone who can direct me to some contact infor for Mavic dealer app is appreciated).

I also source and import my own branded items from the far east.

My "shop" does sales and service of most bicycle components (although not selling group sets for the time being), custom branded product as wholesale and retail, custom wheel builds, etc. I will be branching out into other avenues as time progresses.

I do not sell bicycles. I do not plan on selling bicycles. Too many small minded politics involved with them. Nothing like taking a comodity and trying to make it no longer a comodity with strict distribution policies -> over inflated prices.

I have had many ideas about my own wheel and hub systems that I hope to one day, while leveraging my manufacturing background and contacts, be able to bring to the market.

I'm small time but I am honest, and exacting in my work. I believe that doing good things leads to good things and so far that has been true.

If you have questions - please drop me a line at my site psimet at psimet dot com. Please don't pm me here if you can avoid it.

Apart from that I'll let my customers speak for themselves....

Also never underestimate the kindness of those you ride with. Since this started growing I can count about 10 BF members who have lent direct professional support from everything such as business plans, decals, new web design, custom programming (more on that later... ), etc.

forget linkedin...BF is where it's at.

I got a psimet rear wheel a couple weeks back. Its vastly superior to the neuvation and mavic wheels I have also had on back there. The only thing that compares is my Reynolds DV46T, which is probably worth 2-3x as much.
